What justifies 20 euro to rebuy the same game?
I dont understand the high pricing of this game.

From the reviews, its the same game with a few changes here and there. So what gives the high price?

Shogun is not free DLC - it looks like one of the main reasons to buy this very similar looking sequel. The other main reason appears to be co-op - and yet there is no bundle offer to buy 2 copies.

This is badly presented and appears to be overpriced for over £15.

It's only one copy of this sequel and it's still almost £15 because of the soundtrack.

Unless you're poor, how is 20 euro a high price for a game like this? You get more than double the content included in the previous game, including:

  • Multiplayer mode
  • Campaign mode
  • A whole new Age
  • A biome system
  • A whole new currency
  • New units
  • New hermits
  • New mounts
  • A new seasonal cycle
  • Continuous support through free DLC, one of which is out already

And that's just the new features I can remember off the top of my head. There are loads more little things.

I get that if you're poor, 20 Euro is a lot of money. But you can't expect whole new games for practically for free. Come on dude. 20 euro is a damn good price for this game.

i'll wait until it's $10 for that reason alone but i really like the games overall but i can wait

You really think there is enough content to justify this as a new game without Shogun? I may have spent £7.5-£10 on this but it will be at a deep discount if at all.

Small developers pulling shady 'free' dlc moves by shaving off part of their game at launch are just as bad as large developers doing it.

not at $20 no
i just said i'd pay at most $10 for it lol but you said shogun isn't a free dlc, but like; it is.
doesn't matter if you think that should have been added to base game, still free dlc once you buy it

The first time I loaded in I had indeed the same thing, so what is new. It looks the same it works the same. And then I found the shrines and the new currency and almost died once when a certain event happened when I was reaching the end of the island.

But the land selection could be more obvious, as I had completely missed that and now I am playing on the shogun artstyle. Just wondering if it is just a different artstyle or do both options have something more unique added tot he gameplay.

And sadly only found out today that they have a bundle with the 2 older games at 30%, and I already got 4 hours in so no refund and rebuy it through the bundle for me. But I don't mind as I am sure I can get my moneys worths out of it.

The bunde is currently $18.88. The new game is $19.99. Not exactly big savings for anyone who already owns half of it.

The bundle comes witht the soundtrack. Meaning if you buy the bundle you get the game cheaper and the soundtrack as a freebee. And for some people $1 can mean a lot. Not everyone has the same budget.

I think both arguments are technically correct, but the issue is that there is essentially no choice . Personally I'd much rather pay 15E as a player of previous games and not have the soundtrack. As you say, 1E can mean a lot, 5 means a lot more. I was planning on getting two copies, one for me, and one for my girlfriend. The issue is that if I buy 2 at the current price, I spend 40E total. If I get what I expect would be a correct price for the discount, I'd spend 30E total, which suddenly is a lot more reasonable for that expense. The soundtrack is not free, it increases the price of the bundle, and for people who dont want said soundtrack, it makes the discount far less valuable, and thus you have the cause of the issue.

Yeah, I don't really need the soundtrack. Already have it for the first game, too. The new game looks great, but I do wish there was a way to get it without essentially paying full price even though I own all of the previous Kingdom content already. A dollar in savings is negligible for already owning half of the bundle. I'm sure there is a ton of new stuff, but it still looks like an expansion to me, not a brand new product.

And regardless, it also looks like this new game contains the old game in it. Which sort of means that anyone buying the new game for the first time is paying 20 bucks to experience everything, whereas I would need to pay 40 for the same privilege.

Most of the reviews come from people who are insland 3-4 and haven't unlocked the iron age and haven't returned to any of the older kingdoms to finish them, nor have they discovered the final island, so theres a lot more things than the reveiws let on.

Coop takes alot of resources. People wanted coop from earlier games, so blame the price on those players

Okay I feel some of the answers here might be a little bit more hostile than they need to be.

For one thing, adding multiplayer to a game not designed for multiplayer initially can end up being a monumental task that most developers consider as much work as recreating the game itself, considering this game has both local AND online co-op already signifies the work put into the game.

But above all that, they game was redesigned to both commendate the new co-op features, as well as provide a brand new experience to players enjoying the game by themselves.

Compared to both the previous kingdoms, this is the first game where your progress on a kingdom is maintained even through losing your crown or leaving the island your on. You can set sail on the boat, then return back to the island and the kingdom is still there.

Due to how this works, the game had to be redesigned with costs and pacing adjusted. But not only that, to prevent things from getting stale a good portion of new things were added, most of which can be seen in the trailer, but the rest are better left for the player to discover without being spoiled.
