Game is missing sound.
I'm using windows 8 and some reason when I go into gameplay or main menu there is absolutely no sound at all. The intro video plays sound, but the game itself doesn't have any. All volume is on maxed.

Yeah me too, I posted a request for assistance for this issue on the square enix old eidos forums as a reply to boost a guy's post who is also having this issue with windows 8.1 since august I think, no one has replied... And idk what gamespy shutting down would have to do with the audio not working... All that was, was the servers for online multi right? It had secure rom drm before steam, and I imagine the steam version is the latest patch so... Gamespy shouldn't have anything to do with it considering it wasn't part of the DRM or something, which causing no audio could have been a way of fighting piracy maybe? Like the mouse not working in BFBC2 in pirated versions. Actually nevermind, I remember this working on the disc version back on windows 7 so... idk.

Use headphones, sounds work when headphones are connected

I'm experiencing the same issue, but I'm playing on Linux using the latest version of Proton. Using headphones doesn't fix the issue for me.

EDIT: After tweaking Proton somewhat, I restored the audio. The fix seems Proton-specific and carries its own downsides, so I think Windows users are out of luck here.

If you're running the game in Proton, though, just add the launch option "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" (no quotes) and it should it work. Your mouse will no longer work with in-game menus, however. (The rest of the game is unaffected, and you can navigate menus with the arrow keys.)

Thank you so much! I wanted to play this game on my new steam deck and your fix worked GREAT! (Albeit I had to select a different compatibility version of proton in the game's properties, but it worked. Love the gyro built in features of the deck to help with aiming.

Hey, no problem, glad I could help! I was hoping that the problem would be fixed on Proton 7.x. by now but I guess not? Haven't really gotten to testing it on newer versions.

@ShuShay That indeed fixed it with an older version of Proton on the Steamdeck.
