Help for a complete newbie?

I've watched YouTube videos, but the tutorial stopped working halfway through. And when I tried to start a new campaign (Arboria?), I immediately encountered two problems.

1) First, how do I place a Gathering Hut? I've got a Gatherer, and I've got 5 logs, apparently. But nothing happens when I click on the Gathering Hut icon. (I'm guessing I just don't know how to place anything, because I didn't get that far in the tutorial, but mouse clicks don't work and there are no keys listed for that in the options.)

2) Right away, when the game started, my six characters each received a random personality trait. I got the message on the upper right side of the screen. Now,... how do I get rid of those messages? Again, clicking on them does nothing.

Note that they cover up the help screen, which makes that useless as long as they're there. They also cover up half of the Bug Reporting screen. Apparently, we can't drag windows around?

Anyway, a little help would be appreciated. Maybe I could at least START to play the game. Thanks!

PS. And yes, I realize this is early access - the first hour of early access, in fact! So I'm not criticizing. I just need some help.

1) After pressing the hut icon on the right you have to choose a villager to do it - the list should appear on the right side of crafts window. Just press the name of the villager and you should be able to place the blueprint. Most buildings require some skills to be built, and only villagers with those skills will be available

2) Those should disappear on their own once you unpause the game

OK, I'll try that. I chose the character FIRST, and then tried to order him to make the Gathering Hut (clicking on his own crafting menu). Apparently, that's backwards? Thanks!

Yeah, I unpaused briefly, but maybe not long enough, since I wasn't getting that hut built.

No, that doesn't happen. There are no villagers listed there. I tried both ways, accessing the list of Crafts from the top left of the screen and also choosing the character first, then bringing up the crafts list from that. There were no characters listed anywhere in the crafting window. It's just a (very short) list of buildings and such, but nothing happens when I click on them.

I feel this game needed a few more months to back in the oven as it's not new player user friendly they need to work on the tutorial and explaining things a bit better.

OK, I figured it out by watching carefully on a YouTube video. If you click on the craft, nothing will happen. You have to click on the EDGE of the square, not in the center.

Yeah, it's nuts. And I don't know why it's like that. But this is why it wasn't working for me. You can't click on the picture in the center or it won't work. (Clicking on the name at the bottom of it will work, but anywhere at the edge of the square will also work.)

OK, now maybe I'll get more than 30 seconds into this game? :) Thanks, all.
