Game Crashes

This predominantly appears to be a DX12 issue. Ensure your video card is DX12 compliant as per the D3D12 Error below

D3D12 Error

The game is DX12 only meaning you must have a DX12 compliant video card. To check ifyour card is DX12 compliant

* Run dxdiag.exe
* Click the "Display" tab
* Look under "Feature Levels"

If this line doesnt include "12_1" or "12_0", your video card does not support DX12

NOTE: The "DirectX 12" in the General tab is a lie. It only shows what the Operating System itself supports, not what your video card supports.

You can 'try' to use Vulkan from the launcher, but that may not work though depending on how old your card is.

windows 7 not supported

As per the system requirements, windows 7 is not supported and as such any issues you have with the game will be resolved when you upgrade to windows 10

Audio Issues

* reboot your computer

* USB headsets seem to be causing issues currently. Please plug you headset in directly to a heaphone jack

If you have a USB headset, please report the type of headset. Also does the headset come with any audio enhancement, or programs that came with the headset as those potentially could be conflicting with teh game.

Update Your Video Card Drivers

This is the next most common cause for people's inability to run the game, particularly on PC.

First check your driver version using this method and make sure your drivers are recent:

• In Steam, go to the Help menu
  
• Then go to "System Information"
  
• Check your driver version and OpenGL version under the "Video Card" section

If you see that your drivers are from, say, August 2009, and/or you are running a version of OpenGL earlier than 2.1, and your card supports 2.1 or higher, then you should definitely be updating your drivers.

It is also important that you update your drivers through software provided by your video card manufacturer or directly from their site. Using Windows or updating software provided by your laptop manufacturer to find more recently drivers is less reliable, as they will likely only have drivers that initially shipped with the product, or will be out of date with the actual video card manufacturer.

• For AMD cards, download the AMD Catalyst Control Center, which you can find here:

• For NVidia cards, go to this page and download the appropriate drivers for your card by providing the correct information:

  If you have an NVidia GeForce card, you can also download and install the GeForce Experience to update your cards through that:

Always make sure you reboot your machine after installing the drivers, just to be safe. Then try relaunching the game.

Laptop users should force their Nvidia/AMD cards

Use the Nvidia Control Panel or AMD CCC to force the game to use your built in GPU instead of the Intel one

Install vcredist 2019

Go to

* C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2019
* run vc_redist.x64.exe
* REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER

Verify the Integrity of the Game Cache

If you have tried all of these workarounds, and are still having trouble running the game,

• Go to your Steam Library
  
• Right click -> Properties on Evil Genius 2
  
• Click the "Local Files" on the left
  
• Click on the "Verify Integrity of Game files..." button

Add Whitelisting To your Anti Virus

One anti-virus in particular seems to be causing issues, but it could apply to any anti-virus product. Please add whitelisting to your anti-virus product for the evil genius exe

Post Helpful Troubleshooting Information

When making a thread about your issues please include

* A very very detailed description of what issue you are encountering
* A post of your system information from steam-help-system information

If you have a save game that accurately replicates your problem please send it to Rebellion as that's extremely helpful. You can find your save games in

C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Evil Genius 2\PC_ProfileSaves<steam numbers>

PRO TIP TO ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS. if you have not passed the 2 hour mark on playtime RETURN THE GAME NOW! its broken and there are bugs that keep you from finishing the campaign RETURN IT NOW IF YOU ARE BELOW THE 2 HOUR MARK cause you wont run into the bugs till mid game when its too late!!!!!!!!!!!

They use Vulkan as well. Vulkan is a graphics API like directx but its multiplatform.

There's apparently a bug that prevents Symmetry from showing up on the world stage during her side story so there's no way to finish her side story meaning there's no way to take on other side stories, some of which (such as looting treasure from the world stage) are required by the main story.

I am unable to go any farther in the story line for Emma sound of science mission the last person i should interrogate is not coming i have been waiting over a hour. can anyone help

This isn't game-breaking just frustrating enough to make stop playing after about 90 hours on this save. The third out of three mission bubbles to defy the luchador on the worldstage will not pop up for the mission "El Corazon del Luchador" and I have no saves or auto saves that will take me before the problem as I have been trying to make it pop up for days. I will not play this game again if I can't find some way to finish this mission. Help or don't. I don't care any more.

Hi I’m having a problem with the new portal pack and another problem with fast forward function

So what is happing is that the game won’t count the interrogations for the combo of the science pannle and the propulsion gel what should I do

And th fast forward thing is not working or it looks like it all of the minions walk around like normal and nothing is faster idk what to do and it’s just boring having to wait for a minion to move from one spot to another

here is a FIX for the game issuing a gpu device lost error after an ALT+TAB or having the game lose foreground focus.:

set compatibility for the launcher and both the DX12 and Vulkan copies of the game executable to run the game as an administrator.

the file locations are (assuming default install locations):

c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Evil Genius 2\launcher\eg2.exe
c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Evil Genius 2\bin\evilgenius_dx12.exe
c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Evil Genius 2\bin\evilgenius_vulkan.exe

to set compatibility:

right click on the files matching the above file names. then select properties. on the properties menu, select the compatibility tab. select the option "Run as Administrator". now click the OKAY button.

if you continue to see this issue, then it means there is a final step, which is disabling the steam in-game interface.

to do that: goto to you steam library and right click on the Evil Genius 2 game entry in the list on the right and select properties. Next unselect the option "Enable Steam Overlay". then press the Okay button.

this is and issue that affects both Windows 10 an Windows 11. it is not a problem with the OS, or the system hardware. It is an issue that should be able to be patched by the devs, but has not.
