GPU device was lost, game cannot continue
Game died early in the tutorial, giving the message 'GPU device was lost, game cannot continue' and crashed to desktop. It's an RTX 2060, should be able to handle the game, any idea how to fix this?

It's persistent, game crashed again less than 5 minutes after loading the save, latest Nvidia drivers. Game not playable in its current state.

Is your GPU overclocked? If so, you might need to make some adjustments.

I haven't changed the factory settings. Don't know how to overclock it, not sure where to make adjustments.

Have you tried to play using the opposite driver version of the game than you are launching? That is, use DX12 instead of Vulkan, or vice versa?

If that doesn't work, I'd try to get different drivers. I'd try to see if you could get older drivers that are still on the site, or even try out beta drivers that are newer but not certified yet.

Also in the Nvidia Control Panel, make sure you're forcing it to use your Nvidia card. I don't know if you have a PC that has another in it or a built in one besides it, and so that may help.

It waited too long for a response , known as ping. It's not a setting you do change any longer. Increasing it will make the computer instead take long time before it crash and most of the time it won't solve it. Put it back into the slot and see if you can make the wireless connection between the motherboard and the GPU work and look after the software requirements for the videogame. With steam you most of the time gets a folder with all the software you need to play with the game inside its content folder but there been some cases the developer haven't ported the game with the correct software since they sometimes homebrew their own engines who maybe use older versions of the new software to make the application work. And like all plug and play, all from the N64 and up , do not blow a cartridge or touch the pins. Sometimes it just work by making the application run in an older Windows since it takes time to make the games that by the time they're released they're not really made for the new OS. Mostly it can be but is not limited to the memory. It would also crash if the game can not access the memory by making an access violation. It usually happens when the game isn't registered properly or for some reason has malware who try to access the OS without permission.

It be easier to just reinstall the game than register the game manually. No matter how we look at it. The problem is at your end.

"put it back into the slot"? Dude, it's a laptop. If I have to open the case I might as well just buy a new one.

I tried running it with Vulkan instead. Never heard of that before, but it runs and so far it's stable, so I guess it's a DX12 issue here. I also forced it to use the nvidia card, in case it somehow decided in the middle of the run to switch over to the intel chip. Thanks!

Vulkan is wayyy better than DX12. It's much more stable and game runs more smoothly. More games should support Vulkan over DX12 honestly.

Yeah, I had heard something sort of like this before, this kind of issue where it was switching to their internal GPU on them while playing a game and they had to force it to use their Nvidia card in the settings :D

Vulkan is sort of weird in benchmarks. The highs are higher than DX12, but the lows are lower. It's basically the new OpenGL. As long as it works, who cares right :P

I'm glad it's worked out for you! See you around.

Had this same issue ona GTX card in a laptop. Only happens using DX12, run it on Vulkan and no issues.

My solution was to always use Vulkan.
