It's a massive shame because it took so many years to get 2. I would love a 3. I'm playing 2 right now after a year not playing it.
i think a Two Point Studio version for EG 3 would be interesting. Looking at Two Point Museum - they need to go on expeditions to get loot, keep visitors happy, stop mischief from people 'agents' coming in - i think it's a good fit.
This. What little details? EG2 was near a copy paste of the 1st game with upgraded graphics and timers instead of bars filling. . . .
That always shocked me when playing EG2 and coming into the forums back when the game first released. It was like most people griping and complaining and making comparisons never actually played the original Evil Genius.
Even I can't go back and play that at this point without the mod patching crap. people would grip:
ohh all you do is make minions and send them out and wait. . . . . .
uh. yeah. Did you play EG1? do you not remember waiting for the damn bars to load while you watched your stack of icons go tumbling down? LIke, wtf did I play a different build of Evil Genius 1. lol.
Ohh you had unlimited minions!! Uh, no. no that was a mod.
OH HH YOU HAD MOD SUPPORT.. Actually.. uh. .no they didn't support mods at all. just a dedicated modding community around the game.
-Mods.
-traps was useful, and fun.
-agent had different looks depending on what factions they came from.
-super weapons you had a choice no matter what evil genius you played.
-you moved island.
-henchmen returned and you could run more than 1 mission at a time in a "sector".
-money was not some magical thing that just appeared in your vaults.
-that terminal that you could use to force minions to stay in a room.
-loot was actualy usefull for decoing your base for buffs.
-the humor was better
EG 2 feels like a mobile game, it really waste your time and it gets boring really fast. the game systems feel disconnected.
only thing EG 2 have is the graphic, and it support ultrawide, not that i really care about graphic that much.
I liked that loot was also used for science, so had a reason in addition to buffs/ decoration.
I liked the fact that gold was at risk as it got collected from and brought to the depot.
I enjoy the better cover operation but i miss that tourists could wander into your base as an additional threat.
The 2nd island was fun to evacuate to, again adding some risk to the evil genius.
It felt like the Evil Genius was more at risk in number 1. Some of the tasks felt more individual - like the assassin sent to you. The bosses that you had to come to your table, which flipped over to show your plans. I know there's some missions where you have people come to the island but those are clones with "job titles" attached, and you capture and interrogate them. They don't use your equipment, they don't really go or do anything special or present any risk.
You had to spend time with minions on the map researching to uncover schemes, building infamy rather than just appearing.
Your missions could fail after losing so many units on the map, you had to monitor if super agents were in the area that added additional danger to it. Rather than just start and forget.
You could capture and torture secret agents.
Traps could be chained and linked to sensors.
Agents felt more independent rather than chained to some group mechanic.
Don't get me wrong, i like EG2, i play it lots. But these are just a few more things i enjoyed from EG 1.
I can only say one thing: various tortures. In the first part of the game, there was a huge arsenal of torture, which consisted not only of traps but also of wonderful 'everyday' items. For example, in the kitchen, you could buy a stand with a huge mixer. AND YOU COULD SPIN A SUPER AGENT IN IT WHILE YOUR HENCHMEN WERE HAVING LUNCH. Did a henchman run away with your money? CATCH HIM AND PUT HIM IN THE CENTRIFUGE!!! It didn’t kill him, but it dropped his 'alertness' to zero, and he forgot about trying to escape and went back to work. It was very helpful in retaining 'valuable' personnel.
