Why do you keep playing a game you hate so much?
so many people are on here saying how much they hate the game and still they have more hours in the game than a full work week!

please explain the psychology behind why you are willing to subject yourself to something that makes you feel so much anger, hatred, and disgust that you are willing to work a second job just to feel bad?

I feel absolutely no remorse for people who choose to subject themselves to negativity and then complain about it. frankly, its your choice to play the game. wouldn't you rather be doing something more entertaining? wouldn't it be freeing and more relaxing to feel happy for a change? Being angry all the time is draining and can actually lead to health problems.

its just a video game people. Its not worth making yourself angry, depressed or even homicidal over (yes, I have reported a few people already for making threats of physical violence on this forum).

The next time you go to hit that play button ask yourself "why am I doing this to myself?"

If they have too little playtime, people invalidate their criticism with "you didn't play enough to know better". If they have large amounts of playtime, its "you're just burnt out" or "clearly you enjoyed it enough to play it as much as you did."

No one can win this using your logic. Tackle the criticism on merit, not time played.

because some of players are not launching the game for 'playing', they are just testing if some mechanism in the game are actually doing something or not, and discovering if there are more issues not being pointed out by others. After all the progress gates, it's way beyond the 2-hour refund limit.

How about asking Rebellion "why are you doing this to your customer?"
We are paying for a game with expected quality, not some positive energy life coach lesson

Define "hate".

Most people dont "hate " the game but more the lack of "polish" everyone can see this is beta state and not finished.

You change concepts, I don't hate EG, I want EG2 to really be a follow-up to EG, not a rough piece. The game has serious problems with game design, everyone sees it and many want fixes.

Yeah I'll agree with this, Good game, But clearly needs major quality of life improvements.

I don't "hate" this game, I actually think this has potential to be a definite improvement over the first game. However it's not there yet at the moment and Rebellion has a lot of work to do. It's perfectly playable at first, but I what find really deceptive is the softlocks that might show up later in the campaign with the side stories. And that's not going into all of the other aspects, bugs, and coding oversights that seemed like they didn't do any quality assurance.
I've kept my expectations very low since release, but I think it's safe to say that the current state is simply not acceptable. Playable but could be better.

Ever think people are past the returning point and still trying to salvage something good out of something they can't seem to like. What kind of question is this? Lets say you buy a car and you hate it but can't return it... are you going to let it sit in your driveway and say "f-that car" no your going to try and use it because you bought it and want to try and like what you are now stuck with.

Second not everyone hates the game, but there are many game breaking elements that keep people from enjoying it. Why is there some kind of rule saying you have to have low hours in a game to hate it? As bad as saying you need many hours in a game to be enjoying it.

You might even be the same person that says if you Hate it and have low playtime that you can't have an opinion.

I have no hate for the game or devs. :p2cube:
just not what I was hoping/looking for - uninstalled and moved on...

Every game is tedious during the learning phase, it's only after that when you can evaluate whether you're having any fun... and in this case, I don't hate the game, but I'm not having fun.

I'd like to point I have spent over 30 hours just waiting for objectives to complete because I can only do one at a time.

Only person, so far, has actually answered the question. I was hoping some people would look into themselves and ask why they keep playing a game that, to them, is clearly not worth their time. I think it is a fascinating question in psychology; why do people do things that make them angry when there are other, better options available?

captrench: I wasn't intending to use logic to do anything. I am trying to understand why some people continue to subject themselves to things they dislike when they have other options available. This is just a game after all, not a job, or some IRL legal responsibility. Your response also indicates that you greatly dislike the game, so, why does captrench continue to play?

YesMan: a valid response. thank you. however, your response seems generalized for a large group of people. do you fit into that group? why does YesMan keep playing a bad game?

se05239: "hate", verb, to regard with extreme aversion; have great dislike for; detest.

Rybak, Deranged Morgath, Necros: I understand your complaints, I share them myself and you seem to be reasonable people that are willing to have a good nurtured debate and listen to others opinions. however, you seem to know that the game is not fun for you. so why keep playing?

XDogg: your analogy just gets to my point. the reason people keep driving a car they don't like is because they have no choice. cars are very expensive and they need one to get to work or other places. that would be the reason I was looking for in my question. however, the game is no more than $50. it is also not required to do anything. the point of a game is enjoyment and fun, so my original question stands. why continue playing a game that makes you do not like?

TommyK: thank you for a reasonable response.

Vagabond, s1nfu77: also a reasonable response, but, you haven't answered the question. why keep playing? do you not have other games that give you more enjoyment?

Because, people complain alot online.

When people are happy and enjoy something, they will rarely rush to the forums "THIS GAME IS AMAZING, MUST PLAY".
Yet, when they're disappointed, or unhappy, they will make their anger heard.
The fact that it's still mostly positive reviews clearly shows this game is being far better received then what the complainers try to make you believe.

It's not perfect, it's nothing amazing, it's fun.

Since they really want a sequel to EG, there aren't that many games like that.

The game is lackluster in it's story the basebuilding is fun, the missions are very repetitive and bland. The humor is very dull, the game is addicting through the idea of progress but not the progress itself. The reason you can only accomplish 1 side mission at a time is stupid. When your mission glitches out and you don't notice quick enough to recover from a quicksave your game is pointless. I was saving the side missions for a point where I was confident enough with gold and progress to do them. I have about 4 million and I am very deep in the main storyline which is just the repeat of the same research and recover over and over. There are no ways to recover stolen loot, henchmen don't get captured like they used to, interrogation devices aren't as neat as before.

I was enjoying the game up until the point of the game breaking side mission that ruined my saved game. Perhaps if they would implement a trigger that aloud markers to respawn that glitched out or an option to cancel a mission back to its last checkpoint. However this game has been a waste of my time seeing as the number of hours I sank into it hoping I would progress and getting stuck behind a bug that will hopefully get cleared up down the line. Starting to think that even after the bug is fixed, somehow my saved game will be lost, as if I will need to start new to not encounter the bug.

I understand bugs happen, but I didn't pay to be a beta tester. This whole concept of we will make a game and patch it later is getting old. Been letting this game stew in my untouched list for 3 weeks now, wanting to beat it but not skip all the side missions because I can't advance through the one. The side missions are probably the most exciting part of this game and people are having a hell of a time getting too glitched out to complete them.

(If only there were a cheat so I could complete this side mission and try to progress through the game. )
