mine are just sitting around
even if i remove their tables they dont man the posts till alert is on
are u using the advansed guard post? having less tables does help. but a lot of times the guard vill leave before the replacement is there, and if the replacement is cout up in some fight , it can take a long time 4 anyone 2 return to the guard post

You can't specify them to man a post, You can tell them to sit at a guard table or Monitor though.
The thing about Advanced Guard Post is that it drains Smarts on the guards that uses them, so after a time they will leave to replenish their Smarts. It also conflicts if they have a Guard Table or Monitor with a free seat, in which case they may go and use that instead. Also Guard Tables drain Morale very slowly, while Monitors drain both Smarts and Morale very slowly, which causes them to go replenish their stats once they run out.
Only when I have more Muscle Minions then Seats at a Table or Monitors and then some, do I see Advanced Guard Post Manned. And even then it depends on the Minion's Stats and the time it takes for them to replenish their stats.
I can not remember what stat drains when they stand there on guard, I think Smarts.
Advanced Guard Posts drains Smarts while it's manned.
Yeah those guard tables can play a factor. I think for the longest time I had 1 advanced guard table. I recently put another one and I did notice a difference in the advance guard post getting manned.
The only reason I added in another guard table, was that I added in another front entrance to my base, so I wanted a group of guards to be at the ready if anything went down.
I don't know how I feel about guard tables, I mean I would never over use them or add too many. I find 1 or 2 enough. I might even try none. I find advanced guard post better and the fact that muscle minions roam around corridors can be enough and having cameras.
1) Replenish Stats
2) Man Cameras (if set to muscle)
3) Man guard tables
4) Man guard posts
5) Help teach muscle minions
They'll do the next item down if the items above it have been taken care of.
The most simple way to go about this is to also know what type of minions you want in that area most often, your cover operation should have fairly easy access to things that restore Deception minion stats.
The armoury anywhere with guard posts, and usual entrances agents will use should have easy access to things that restore Muscle minion stats. (as an additional recommendation build an armoury near your vault)
And the laboratory + control rooms should have easy access to things that restore science minion stats.
Additionally more general + worker specific stat restoring things should be placed near the training room and near where your minions pickup objects before placing them in your base.
Even further advice when building new levels though not required it can also be a good idea to make some small rooms containing beds and serving food, which can later be paved over with other things once the construction is done.
However, I did have this issue earlier. They're probably running around replenishing stats. At least that what's they did when I played earlier. When I optimised my base I didn't have this issue anymore.
