If they go about add more, I'd also suggest putting in 1280x720 for those of us who play on the TV but think the UI gets too small in 1080p.
However, for as long as I can remember you have been able to change the resolution to anything your graphics card supports via Windows registry, where Allegiance stores some settings. If you are familiar with the registry check out http://www.freeallegiance.org/FAW/index.php/How_do_I_play_Allegiance_on_a_widescreen_monitor%3F (skip to the part about the registry, some of the article is a bit dated). If not, I can provide a registry file to import the custom resolution. I would just need to know if you are running a 64 bit version of windows or 32 bit.
Personally I much prefer playing Allegiance with a lower resolution such as 1366x768. To me and some others, flight seems a lot more responsive and accurate. Resolutions were very low back when the game was made so while it is possible to use high resolution, the game was really built with lower resolutions in mind. Of course it doesn't look quite as nice and not everyone feels this way. Can always try a higher resolution and go back if find you prefer lower.
