Random people can me medical experts, so sure.
Legend is more linear. So probably a little closer to 2013. But its still fun. Just dont expect the pre-2013 games to be as linear as it is.
Underworld should always be played last out of the three since its the finale. Leans more into Anniversary than Legend. Some of the best Tomb Raider stages ever (New Mexico and Taiwan). But the rest of the stages feel more straightforward.
I would be careful with that claim...
I tried the first DOS game I think twice over the years, but always failed with those horrible controls. Then, after going through the more modern games eventually, and running out of them, I went back to the idea to try the DOS games again. This time around I ignored the first one right away, but my idea only lasted for about 15 minutes -- again, controls. For this particular attempt I tried to get the gamepad to work, but the "Joystick-support" on the old game either doesn't work or is horribly unsuited for the game. Besides, the games look awful.
In general, always be careful with old games, and be extra-careful with DOS games. It takes a special kind of weirdness to want to play a DOS game in 2025.
Why?
The original games still work well with a control stick. So if you’re forcing yourself to only use a D-pad then that’s on you.
Of course the older games still aren’t for everyone, but I’d play them over the generic 2013 reboot any day when it comes to gameplay
I'm currently stuck in Anniversary because I don't like that it's a "remake" of the original, but trying to shove itself into this Crystal Dynamics trilogy. It's a weird mish mash, and it has some major control issues.
Important that some physics for the Legend Trilogy are broken on newer PCs. So if theres issues with Lara's hair, or boxes that go flying when you place them down, or some other physics bugs, then locking the fps to 60 helps a lot. Its especially noticeable as a problem in Underworld without locking fps.
