Adding Tomb Raider: Legend to Steam
Tomb Raider: Legend as well as a few other games of TB have already been in my possession for years. Far before I've joined Steam. Now I do have the installation disks but wish to add these games fully to Steam. I can only add them in a way that allows me to start the game from Steam but they are not really added to my account. So if I'd uninstall them they'd also vanish from my Steam libary. Do you think there is a way of adding them to Steam completely so that even if I'd ever lose those disks or anything else happens I still will be able to simply reinstall them from Steam. In case they offer trophies I'd even like to have that option cause right now that does not work. I'd be happy if someone could help me any further with this issue, thanks already!

Hello,

I am afraid there is no way to save the files inside your steam account. The only way to do that is to buy the game.
TRL will usually cost around 2-5 USD when the steam sales are on. However if you want to be able to play without the disc, then you can download a crack and put it inside your game folder and therefore you can open the game with the crack .exe file and not the disc.

Damnit, I was hoping it could work without buying the game. I find it stupid to buy it even tho I already have it, no matter how much it costs. However, thanks for your help!
Well, I agree. However if you are a real tomb raider fan, maybe you migh get it on steam as well so you always have the game without the cd. I have bought TRL on steam, on pc (disk) and on ps2 :)

Hahaha, nice to hear that :)

Try using your product-key which came along with CD/DVD box of your game. Use
+ADD GAME... -> Activate Product on Steam...

That sounds an interesting idea. Did anyone try it and did you have luck? I too have a few of the TR from before the Steam days. Would be good if one can use the original keys. At least that way, they know it's original, and makes Steam seem like less of a douche :P

Thank you uğrcnsyn for the great idea but there is no product key. Those games are are, like D4rk4ng3L said, made before the Steam days. There isn't even a key on the CD/DVD I could use cause at those times they probably didn't even knew what Steam is. So unfortunately this isn't working, which is why I complained about this matter, otherwise I'd be already all happy having them in my library forever.
Indeed. There are difference between the original cd key and the steam key. Original cd keys of any games such as TRL, dont work because they don't excist in the steam key-list servers. Some other games like Tomb Raider 2013, have a logo of steam on the cd box so you will know the game is only for steam :)

I do have Doom 3 and Jedi Knight Academy both on disk, and did have them at one time in my Steam folder JKA had no CD key and was able to add a non-steam game, Doom 3 however did come with a CD key and used it. both went thru no problem. I too agree I don't want or need 2 copy's of the same game. I also have on disk TR2 thru 6, and as much as I enyoyed playing all of them over and over again, I have no need to goback. I play TRL, TRU, and TR thru steam. The point being and have alway's said this TR is only as good as the last one, she does some thing in the new one you didn't see in the last. TRL n TRU have enough content for me not to goback and replay 2-6.

That's a good point, admittedly; TR has had a reasonable evolution. Though some of the older games were classics in their own right; the new games have plenty of content that almost makes it boring to go back for anything more than nostalgia. I suppose it's good enough just to keep a copy of the CD original, and maybe a copy on a NAS at home, or a cloud drive. At some point there will be some retro player engine which will import the data from the old games, and allow you to play it on your phone, or cereal box (in the future maybe), or whatever. I see a lot of these open source game engines in the Linux distros and sometimes ported on Android etc. Maybe some day, Eidos or whoever still has dibs on the old code; will release the old engine code like the id Software guys did for Doom and Quake? (I think DOSbox runs the original TR now anyway?)

I had the same problem as well, that's dissapointing...

Isn't this a good idea though? Isn't it like having the game on disk and having it on your pc?
