How To Break Boxes With Items In Them???

This game is very glitchy and I have played it since childhood but on game systems. Now on Steam though, the boxes are impossible to break unless I throw a grenade just right or I get lucky with it, I don't know but is there a way to fix this? Next Gen has been turned on and off, that doesn't change anything.

I usualy pop them open with just aiming mode and pistols, no problem cracking them open with a bullet.
