Picking up health items

I have just downloaded the demo. Could someone tell me please how to you pick up the health items? I have tried to walk over them to pick them up (including pressing E) but nothing has happened. Thanks.

In many games, if you can't pickup items then you either have the max number of them already, or they are instant-use and you don't need them.

It's been forever since I've played this, but did you try walking over them when you're actually hurt?

My feeling is that as it is a demo, the features in the full game are missing from

the demo.

'..such as the ability to pick up weapons from people you have killed, or health items.

Further to my message, in the full game would you be able to save at any point in the game, and not have to reach a checkpoint to do so?

I have found the answer to my last question after checking the game manual.
