Next Gen Graphics make game look worse?

Is it just me or does having the Next Gen Graphics option turned on make the game look worse? It looks darker and the water looks worse. Everyone is just going on about saying to turn it off to prevent the game from crashing, but it looks better with it turned off anyway lol...
This 'Next Gen Graphics' option is ofcourse supposed to make the game look the same as 7th gen on console and having it turned off is ofcourse supposed to make the game look the same as 6th gen on console, but... im wondering if this Next Gen Graphics option is actually bugged because it would be pretty disappointing lmao if this is what the game looks like on 7th gen consoles. I played the game on 360 and remember the game looking better than on PS2, so i assume that the Next Gen Graphics option is bugged, but it was many years ago that i played them so my memory might be fuzzy

Here's a comparison video I found on youtube quickly. I think it looks improved in several areas, if it didn't adversely effect gameplay I'd consider turning it on.
