We'll look into some tweaks for this though. At the moment it's purely random but we need to eliminate the combo of 2 negative traits and 1 negative, 1 neutral.
Wartales added a feature where you can put up a recruitment poster to attract the type of recruits you want (selecting the traits, but paying more gold to get them). Please consider something like this.
edit. ran out of money, never managed to get 5 recruits that i wanted to play the game with, given up before the game even really started. Wasn't even looking for god-rolls, just a single trait and / or matching affinity. Most rpgs let you create your starting team from scratch, especially games like this.
Will come back to the game if there is some way around this, either through an update or if someone can let me know how to modify the game save files please.
But if your looking for the ideal traits and specialties in one specific class, yeah, its gonna be rough. Ice binder is probably one of my favorite classes, but I haven't even hired one in my current play though. I have two Valkyries, which I usually ignore / kick from my party first when starting. Very different game play experience but still quite fun.
If you wanted to add traits you could do it through the console (the other stuff can't be edited though).
1) Go to C:\Users\YourName\AppData\LocalLow\Curious Panda Games\The Iron Oath
2) open Options.json in notepad and change DebugEnabled to true.
3) Open the console (~).
4) Use the command: addTrait HeightenedSenses 0
That would add Heightened Senses to the first person in your company (usually Euric). I'm not 100% sure the best way to determine which number correlates to which character, so you might have to save/load a few times to figure it out (best ballpark method would be to sort by loyalty, as the characters you've had for the longest would usually be the most loyal)
- 1 negative trait.
- 1 personality trait, affect some dialogue choice morale/loyalty gain
This is nothing to do with positive negative.
A full gang of greedy or selfish heroes doesn't mean negative.
- 1 positive trait.
I however have another opinion about the traits.
I never seen traits that can affect the certain stat levelling speed,
I think such trait should be in the game, reduce/increase certain stat gain require point.
We also shouldn't play with too much negative traits in game.
Sometimes, certain games only has positive traits.
And they serve in a way that "different heroes has different strength"
And it also turn out well
The stars next to the a character's attributes are basically this. There are also traits that increase/decrease XP gain. Unless you mean a trait that makes them gain more of an attribute (Power for example) when you rank it up. Though I think the end result of that would be similar to the stars anyway.
if you're looking for Valkyries, make sure to check cities in the Northern Hold, as classes are now more likely to show up in certain regions (this was a recent change, just want to make sure you're aware of it, and not checking for Valkyries in other regions!).
I do think it's pretty rare to have a set of traits that make a character downright unusable. They may not be "great", but they can still be serviceable for a while until you do find a recruit that is closer to what you're looking for, and then you can fire the previous one (recruit levels also scale with your company's Renown as you play, so you won't necessarily need to start from scratch with a level 1 recruit in the mid to late game).
In the end, traits and stars are just bonuses. It's mostly their gear and levels/ability upgrades that are going to determine success/failure - and the player of course :D lol
Perhaps as a stopgap until we get to implement some of the mechanics I mentioned above, we could increase the number of stat/combat traits to 3 instead of 2, so characters would start with:
-2 Positives, 1 Negative
-1 Positive, 1 Neutral, 1 Negative
-2 Neutrals, 1 Negative
We'll continue to monitor this thread for feedback!
Can you "remove" a trait? wink wink....If so, what's the console command prompt?
Afraid not! Can only add right now. You could also try just doing addPlayer Icebinder (or any class name) to generate some characters if you wanted to try and get some trait combos that you like a little more easily (would have to buy out the contracts of other ones you don't end up using, so you can use giveCoin 1000 to make sure you have enough for that)
You didn't have to, but i appreciate that you didn't force us to play the game as it was intended.
Perhaps one of the community members could make a guide with these codes, since others who feel the same aren't likely to look in this thread given it's title.
