Is it now playable WITHOUT VPN?

I used to hate this game a lot but at the same time I loved it and spent 150 hours on it. Despite that I rated it thumbs down because I'm forced to pay for VPN to play the game on top of paying for the game. I changed my review seeing the update. I appreciate the work they do.

Year passed, is it now playable without VPN for those who are using VPN to not disconnect? Or is still still present?

This question is for those like me who's forced to use VPN to avoid being disconnected mid-match and forced to restart game every 10 minutes.

Fcking hell I literally can't open the game without crashing with or without VPN. ..I'm so disappointed...

If you can get your machine to run the game again, you might want to try turning crossplay off in Settings>Game>Network, and when you're about to run a mission, go to "Game Settings" and switch "Use local peer-to-peer server" to "On".
Then you won't be trying to connect to a dedicated server to play.
Even if your internet connection can handle connecting to their dedicated servers, they're... not great.

its sounds like you don't even know the purpose of a VPN is or what is does. a VPN is not going to magically make you not disconnect.

Sounds like you have the lucky connection then. It's common in this game, you can search and see that some people have this issue as well.

I've had more than 150 hours in the game, I know pretty well that VPN doesn't disconnect me because I can actually finish 1 hour Horde game without DC'ing. Meanwhile, without VPN I don't literally last 10 minutes ALL the time. LITERALLY.

Next time do your research and don't talk like you experienced what I'm experiencing.

Yes, private lobby with Crossplay off. Then you go into Game Settings once you're in a lobby.
