Overheating issue. (Solved.)
Bought the game to play with friends, fired it up to see how it ran, which it was running just fine for the short while i was in the menu. I didn't get into an actual game because i exited immediately when i noticed my CPU was bouncing around 200 degrees (the low-mid 90's celsius). And again, this is the main menu.

This is not normal for my CPU, not even when the game i'm trying to play actively demands more of it than what the poor thing can do (DARKTIDE YOU FU-). My GPU is cool as ice, unsurprisingly. And i've poked around and seen similar issues but none of the answers to those remotely match my dilemma.

I can figure only one option: Lower the settings, but I don't know which ones affect the CPU load the most. Can anyone here help with that? I don't know if i'm being paranoid and this is actually fine but when my PC is old, screaming, and I am mildly illiterate when it comes to actual hardware, safe than sorry.

CPU: Four core i5-7500 3.40 GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 970
Settings were on High.

Already done so. One of the first things i did when i was initially going through my settings. Capped to 60, and a few minutes later i noticed the CPU temps.

EDIT: Throw away everything I just said. Petey is correct, it turns out the excessive temps I was seeing was residual heat from before I capped the framerate. Which terrifies me that it got that hot in literally five minutes and also makes me feel stupid. And very happy, turns out it runs maxed out totally fine. Smooth as butter. Cheers!
