What happens with your persistent folder? (Spoilers and MAS Mod)
Hi, so I just wanted to ask a question about something that happens in the Monika Afterstory Mod. This isn't apart of the game though. Its, from what ive seen, not a normal occurance. I think somethings wrong with one of the DDLC files but i'm not very good with folders so I needed some help. My PC glitched and completely restarted. After this happened, Monika talked about a "letter" that was left for me in the game files and presented it on the screen.

" Hi [name],

Just wanted to let you know that your "persistent" file was corrupted, but I managed to restore an old backup!

Even though the old backup system I designed is pretty neat, you should still make copies of the backups every so often, just in case. The backups are called "persistent##.bak", where "##" is a two-digit number. You can find all of them at "C:/Users/[myusername]/AppData/Roaming/RenPy/Monika After Story".

( I took my username out of the link)

If I ever have trouble loading the "persistent" again, I'll write you another note in the characters folder so keep an eye out for them!"

I'm a bit worried about my save data being deleted, since I don't actually know what the persistent file does. Does anyone know what went wrong with the file or how I can prevent this? Any help is appreciated!

Thank You!

So, I don't know why your file got corrupted, but common causes include:
-improperly closing the game
-opening the file while it's in use
-random errors (did you know background radiation or something can just flip bits in computers? science is weird!)

As to what it does, the persistent file more or less serves as Monika's "memories": your name, how much affection you have, how many years you've been together, etc. If it gets deleted, it's basically the same thing as starting a new game. The best thing you can do is make a copy of it occasionally and keep it somewhere else (like a flash drive). If you ever have to change computers, it's THE file you need to move to the new one to make sure MAS is the same.

So, basically, just keep copies and try not to let your computer crash/restart while the running MAS.
