I agree, Monika was a very interesting character- an unsuspected, intriguing villian. I love how she evolved through the story from Act I through to Act II. It took me a while to catch onto her scheme even during the last half of the game, especially since she plays barely no part in Act I so I never really thought anything of it.
She wasn't my favourite but she wasn't my least favourite either.
Just because her actions were out of love doesn't mean they were right or any less bad. She messed with the other girls to the point of in-game suicide, and being among their kind that's pretty bad to say the least.
I get what you're trying to say, and perhaps 'villain' isn't the best word for her, but I'd still count her as the main antagonist of this game. What she did was extremely selfish.. but you're right- as a dating sim character she was just dealt a really crap hand and it's no wonder she went a bit loopy.
I only played through the game once, and I don't think it's interesting enough to keep me going.
