SPOILERS: The irony of DDLC fans

Am I the only one that sees that DDLC is a commentary of the anime community and proves that no matter how terrible the character is written, no matter how unlikable they are, no matter how many terrible things they say or do anime fans will still glorify the characters because they are cute? Like seriously, if you're the type of person that loves this games because it has cute anime girls in it instead of loving it for it's clever writting and awesome use of expectations against the player then you're being played my dude.

well i think its more of a 50/50 on peoples opinions some people liek the game cus of the girls, some cus of the storytellign and execution, some it could be both! and dude its DDLC not DDLG

I mean, ppl already said their opinions and the fact that sayori's suicide and other stuff changed their life. So what's the point of making endless threads of the exact same content? Nobody focused on the girls, when this game first got released, from what I remember. So why not doing now, when most of the commmunity already forgot about the game and now we only have 10 ppl remembering and still playing (This avenamen dude, some poetry bois and me?)

The reason why I made the thread was because I keep seeing people with DDLC pfp or just completely changing their profile to be a character. What they're doing is glorifying the characters in the game like anime fans do to any other thing that has an anime art style and it's ironic that they are doing it to DDLC sense it uses anime community's fanticism against them, to play psychological horror on them and to make commentary on them and the fact that they still are glorifying it speaks volumes about them

Every fanbase of any size is going to have a range of types of people, some weird, some who like one aspect of the work, some who like others, some who'll read meaning and interpretation in and some who'll have a surface level read.

Dismissing an entire fanbase or trying to tar everyone who likes a thing with the same brush because some fans are odd or take things too far is foolish.

Idk how much more clear I have to be when I say that weeb trash that miss the commentary on anime culture in this game are being played by this game when they do stupid things like glorifying the characters because they are cute school girls. I wasn't dismissing the fans, I was dismissing the people that miss the commentary and message the game subtly tells. Yeah right just played for "The plot".

For real though, "The plot" would be the main reason to like the game, sure some character may catch your eye but the whole story (in my opinion) is above everything else.
If the characters would be the main focus in the game, Wouldt it become like another dating sim?
Like think for a min: If the game would have ended in act 1 (Without having the plotwist) but removing the sayori scene and replacing it with a romantic ending, Would people praise the game like they do now?

And me, part owner of the only serious analysis of the game that went over 1200 comments, even when Steam ripped out a whole bunch of comments for the wrong reason.

I'm still finding raw material to put on my website - like this.

Yeah, I am commenting on a side thread to one of my friends that was very helpful to me in our topic and privately, in getting the ren'py decompiling done.

No worries. I actually read it a few times. The first time, I thought something like what [Salty] FetishPharah said. All of the serious discussion has been talked out and done, so people fall back to memes to keep enjoying the community they've gotten attached to, which has nothing to do with not seeing the satire. It's just enjoying those aspects too. But then you said that wasn't your point, so I read it again and thought something like what Delta said. That it feels like you're just making blanket statements based on the behavior of the few. But you said that wasn't it either. But now I think Rick21 wrapped it up well enough. I haven't seen anyone gush over characters just because they're cute without appreciating the story. Maybe you've been around a part of the fanbase I haven't seen. Who knows? It really doesn't matter that much, but it's nice to understand.

I'd say you're partially both right and wrong about this. I'd suggest reading Dan Salvato's AMA on the DDLC subreddit and his letter to the player in the good ending, as they both give some good insight regarding his intentions with the game. One of the more obvious things is that he doesn't consider people getting attached to these kinds of characters to be an inherently bad thing, which is honestly pretty well-reflected in the game itself. It has no problem poking fun at the typical tropes you find in dating sims and anime, and showing them in a less idealized light, but it also never really condemns the player for liking those tropes.
