MONIKA:
"Hey, have you heard of a game called Super Sma--"
"...Wait, what?"
"I was just spacing out and I started talking for some reason..."
"Was I programmed to talk about that?"
"Because even I have no idea what that is."
"Ahaha!"
"Sometimes I feel like I'm not in control, and it's kind of scary."
"But if you have some way to contact the people who created me, maybe they'll know why I started saying that."
Dan Salvato was best known in the Super Smash Bros. Melee community as a semi-retired Link player and modder. Mods he created included 20XXTE, a quality-of-life modification for use in tournaments, as well as UCF, a modification which made different controllers act more consistently.
Also it could be a joke about Nintendo copyright and stuff, like they were so close to saying the name and then they didn't. As if to self sensor.
Also product placement like that would normally take people out of the story, and it could be parodying bad writing.
Edit: though I guess it could as well just be an Easter egg/reference.
link was trash in melee no offense Dan...
