Doki Doki Literature Club

Doki Doki Literature Club

Just A DDLC Series I'm Starting
So I was just finding ideas for YT Videos and I realized that I could use Renpy to make DDLC stories much like other Youtubers like The Bike. (no don't ask me for mods)

For this series I wanted it to be fun for the 4 of the girls to have fun with each other and live lives without MC and me interfering.
I let Monika keep her power to code.

Now there will still be conflict.
There will be fights, misunderstandings, and more.

But Monika is doing her best to keep her friends happy by adding more freedom to the game, like new places, new music (for you to hear of course), and new sprites for clothes and expressions so that you can see more lively characters,

Overall.
Monika just wants everyone to have a free life.

This series is called Monika's Literature Club.

If you have any questions or something you have to say, feel free to comment down here or on the video itself and I will answer as fast as possible.

There should still be the underlying theme that Monika doesn't view the others as real. However, in the setting you propose she might be attempting some experiments by adding a bit more to the world. More choices, less restrictions, perhaps actively going out of her way to prevent any potential "player" from interfering with her tests. Perhaps Monika has had more time to collect her thoughts, has gone through the depression and is ready to move on and through these experiments she finds purpose.

She can't outright have the others finding out about their state in the world, that nothing is real and they are no more than a collection of sprites, but at the same time she is gradually trying to coax them toward this realization while also preparing them for the initial shock. By giving them more choice, more freedom and essentially more "life" she feels as if she's preparing them to learn the truth, yet is unaware or perhaps doesn't want to admit that she is trying to build a world for herself and somehow make "this" into reality.

Not bad...
Yeah, I've always viewed Monika as feeling bad for what she did, despite not being real.

But yeah, you're basically right with my plan.

Monika wants to give them more human emotion, freedom, and other things.
But not enough to make them self aware.
She believes they aren't ready yet

Thanks for the ideas.
They helped a lot. Further plans should be easier.

If you want to get a bit more cryptic use the information hidden within the game files. At the moment there's a great deal of obscurity involving the details. This would allow you to get a bit more creative with your story, yet at the same time adhere to the lore of the game. What's important is to not turn the characters into what they are not. I'm assuming this takes place in a setting before the game "breaks", yet Monika might be aware of the consequences of taking that route.

Though Monika might be aware of their nature once corrupted you should have it so the story focuses more on the characters before the game breaks. Yuri isn't into self harm and any fascination with knives would be greatly toned down. Natsuki is not as combative, but still embarrassed about liking cute things. Sayori might have timid moments, but nothing that should pronounce her depression.

As far as what to focus on, perhaps add a bit more depth to the character traits. Is Yuri a fan of a particular author? Has Natsuki read any other manga? What kind of jokes does Sayori like? Monika has mentioned she would have liked to have some coffee. Would she add a Starbucks to the world? What kind of coffee would she drink?

If you're looking for some inspiration on character motivation I suggest checking out the mod "True Literature Club". The mod makes it so the game doesn't "break", but neither does it pretend it never happened. The mod expects you to know what the game was like when it "broke" and feeds off that story content (a few cheeky references), but is more about delivering a happy ending by including the festival event. The game doesn't change until you have to choose who to help for Sunday and offers you a "shortcut" to reach that moment.

It's best not to read the details of the mod to avoid spoilers.

I see now.
Alright. I'm making Episode 2 have more depth in it and a better beginning.

I'll also check out the mod. From what you said, it sounds like I'll find a lot of inspiration from it.

And thanks for the summary of the characters before the game breaks and for the suggestions as to what I should do to add depth.

Can't wait to start coding Episode 2.
