too bad for you
I do not defend, but I do not totally blame Monika for doing what she did.
All of them should have a route, Monika was the only one that did not have, the only one who did not love the MC, but the player behind. All the poems that Monika wrote "Hole in Wall", "Save Me", "The Lady Who Knows Everything", "Happy End", talk about her knowing the distance between her and the player, and there will be no way for her to love us, she even asks to delete Yuri, and in "Happy end" it's like she's giving an ultimatum that the good moments do not have to end , as if she were saying "give up everything and everything will be ok". It's clear what she did was wrong but she knew the others were just part of the game.

Of course she regretted, even deleted herself. She "simply" realized that the only way to have a route for her would be to create one for her at any cost. She chose the wrong way to do it, but obviously she was desperate, since whenever she had a chance, the game forced us to choose one of the other girls. She changed the files that contributed to each girl's problem.

During the game she learns to play the piano, and in the end she plays "your reality". If we analyze the music, she talks about Monika and us, who dreams of one day being with us, writing a poem about the two of us, she says that even she's creating something for the club to do, no matter what, they really liked our company, said that she is from another reality, so she says that if she does not know how to love us, she will let us be loved, and that is sad
The music links to the poems and phrases she had already given / told us as an example:
the play phrase: "will you write the way into HER heart?"
the phrase in the song: "Just move your hand - write the way into HIS heart!"
or
when she gives writing tips, about not letting her hand stand on paper or the ink will run off and nothing will be written:
"The ink flows down into a dark puddle
Just move your hand - write the way into his heart! "

conclusion: despite everything, she gives up everything (including us), to see us happy, even if after all she is again who will be left with nothing.
So, yes, she really did love us.

And here the last poem, which we know as:

"Your reality
Every day, I imagine a future where I can be with you
In my hand is a pen that will write a poem of me and you
The ink flows down into a dark puddle
Just move your hand - write the way into his heart!
But in this world of infinite choices
What will it take just to find that special day?
What will it take just to find that special day?

Have I found everybody a fun assignment to do today?
When you're here, everything that we do is fun for them anyway
When I can't even read my own feelings
What good are words when a smile says it all?
And if this world won't write me an ending
What will it take just for me to have it all?

Does my pen only write bitter words for those who are dear to me?
Is it love if I take you, or is it love if I set you free?
The ink flows down into a dark puddle
How can I write love into reality?
If I can't hear the sound of your heartbeat
What do you call love in your reality?
And in your reality, if I don't know how to love you
I'll leave you be"

I doubt Monika actually had any love for the player. Rather, the player was literally the only thing in her world that she could identify with. That, and her perception of reality up until that point had been in the mindset of a "dating sim" character. Given there were no other options it must have been a natural response for Monika to think she "loved" the player. However, Monika went against the grain when it came to people of her reality.

She was ambitious and broke the mold in many ways, not just some game tool like the other characters who's entire existence revolved around being a "dating sim character" and nothing more. If anything, the tinkering to their files by Monika made them more "human" than they otherwise would have been. Ultimately, Monikas story is one of tragedy. A character from a world of love struggling to understand such a concept only to be shattered by the knowledge that she cannot have this one defining emotion.

When someone states they hate Monika for what she did I have to ask "What would you have done in her shoes?" However, for anyone who believe Monika loved the player I have to ask "What if you weren't her only choice?" Not trying to be a downer, I really enjoy any story that can evoke such critical thinking as DDLC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHBD1J3Oo0s
got it
She saw us as something out of the game, and it caught her attention, so it turned into "love," since she did not fit in as a datingsim anymore, and as you said, there were no other options.

would it be that she made the others more "human" in a desperate attempt to get our attention, but she was only to understand that this was very wrong and had opposite result when she understood that love is not it?

In the end, Monika had a route, but a lonely route of forbidden love
And it becomes even more sad, since she did everything she did in vain
Until she herself asks in the poem: "What do you call love in your reality?"

I'm not part of the people who hate her but "What would you have done in her shoes?"
I could not answer, she was desperate and blind

I am part of those who believe that she loved us, but "What if you were not her only choice?"
really, it would be possible and very possible that she did not love us

in spite of everything, I think that the fact of her giving up and everything else shows that she understood a little of what it is to love in our reality and that the love in question would be impossible

now I was thoughtful about all these possibilities
I like DDLC as well, it offers us many feelings and thoughts like "bohemian rhapsody", many interpretations

I wrote all this and went to see the lyrics of this song that you sent ....; it's very sad to see that she was obsessed and that she was capable of everything she did, and still thought it was right to keep us with her, but she accepted that she was defeated and that we hated her at that moment (the first time we played) she realizes can not do anything else, then she asks to be deleted to ease our sorrow ._.

It would most likely be a side effect to what she was going for. The other characters fit rather niche roles in a dating sim, but due to Monika amplifying some of their negative traits she forced them to have to deal with these issues rather than have said minor issues be a known, but not necessarily acted upon part of their character.

One of the things Monika mentions during her talks is about the other characters is their "inhuman" tendencies being "concentrated cuteness with no substance". Though dealing with these issues the characters actually gain substance, thus making them more "human" as a result.

Either Monikas part in the game was to be a tutorial character for plot convenience OR she was never intended to be a part of the game in the first place and the "president becomes self-aware" may be a side-effect of her being here. The hidden files lean heavily toward the game being a facade of some kind.

Seems your answer to both of these is the same. She was "confused" and made her decisions in a panic. DDLC is roughly 4 hours long, give or take. Knowing your life could end within the next 4 hours I doubt any of us could make rational decisions. Monika explains what it's like whenever the game is turned off. Can you imagine being trapped for eternity in a screaming void until whatever was left of your mind eventually fades away?

It is a tragic story that is prone to misinterpretation simply because we do not have all the answers. The hidden files tell a story of their own that has little relation to the game without digging into some very loose theories. Dan Silvato has mentioned that there will be more added to the DDLC game. Not a sequel or a prequel, but something like an expansion. He's probably trying to add more content to the game without it feeling like an update because that would go against the meta elements the game features.

The song above is pretty sad, but I think this one is just really catchy. :)

so she forced the characters into something they would not know and could not handle, like a virus

now that you mentioned I remembered that in Monika After story she always says that "you expected to find girls with X characteristics here, that's why you play those games?"
So when she modified the characters' files forcing their problems, and breaking the "concentrated cuteness," she eventually "humanized" them, it served as the trigger for them to be more real as time passed

It says in "delet me": "if this is all a game, well then I know it is not mine" and in
"your reality": "And if this world will not write me an ending
What will it take for me to have it all? "
So I think it's a third option, where she's only part of the plot as "friend" of the other characters but also, she should not be in the game, as if she was only an NPC but "self-aware"

the feeling of being inside an hourglass just waiting to be drowned all over the sand, and as time goes by, you will feel more and more that the time is coming, and knowing that no matter what you do, the hourglass will not stop, a real torture, it is impossible to think clearly

so would he throw some affirmations out of the game, like that Libitina file?
in order to make us understand everything that happened in this game

this lyrics is really captivating and it sums up almost everything that happened in the game:
Monika made us believe she was a good person but then made everyone fight, made everyone disappear, left us with no options as she, in the end, we were thinking about her but not the way she expected
it all seems to be our fault for starting to play "And it was all over from the moment that I" pressed start "
but we can not blame her, not totally

analyzing the songs, I believe she went through metamorphoses,
"your reality" refers to the dream that she knows to be impossible and has already accepted this fact

"delet me" is the pinnacle of insanity

with everything she's been through and with the information we have, I'm sorry for her
she was without friends and without us, only remained with the eternal void (only until the moment we delete it)
and if we think, she acted like a yandere as well as yuri

Correct, though I doubt this was Monikas intention. She identified them as "not real" and only wanted you, the player, to hate them so that she doesn't end up a prisoner of this horrible fate. However, by messing around with their code she makes it so they aren't just "concentrated cuteness". When you think of Sayori do you see her as the happy "girl next door" she was intended to be or do you see a person struggling with depression? If not for Monika such a thing might not be known. Yuri would only be a shy girl who likes books and Natsuki would just be sweet and pouty. You wouldn't know the dark depths of Yuri's imagination nor would you know Natsuki's defiance would lead to a truly independent individual.

After Story is a fan mod and isn't cannon, though the creators did try to be as faithful with the mod to the original game as they could be. In the base game she keeps bringing up the subject that the other characters "weren't real". I don't believe she is just saying this to the player, but reminding her that she "did the right thing" despite the guilt she feels for doing so. If you're interested in mods I highly recommend you try "True Literature Club". The mod essentially take away the "second half" of the game where it glitches and gives you the chance to see the festival, but at the same time the mod doesn't pretend the "second half" didn't happen. There are a few cheeky references to the "second half", but the added content delves more into the psychology of the characters. The game plays out as normal up until you get to choose who to spend the weekend with and you're even given a "shortcut" to play the 3 poem minigames and skip everything else to get to that point.

I believe the hidden content within the files will be the premise of any added content. How does DDLC fit in with Project Libitina? Who is the image of the girl supposed to be? What role does the crimson eye play? Who is it that escaped these experiments?

What if the entirety of DDLC was the fabrication of a single persons mind with different personalities vying for control? Not just the characters in the game, but the role the player and MC played as well.

Keep in mind the songs are fan productions based on their experience with the game. Mainly tagged them in here because it seemed relevant to the discussion. Looking at the songs meanings though "Delete Me" follows Monika identifying with the player, but not actually knowing "what" they were at first glance. I imagine it's like her looking at the MC, but being more interested in the shadow he casts that is not his silhouette. Or perhaps something like a reverse "Uncanny Valley" where the MC looks no more real than any of the other characters, but something about him seems closer to what she perceives as "reality".

As for the song "Virus", that's more of a play on words. It references both the physical and digital definitions of "Virus" in relation to the somewhat sick feeling of falling in love for the first time. Butterflies in the stomach, can't take your mind off the other person, stuff like that.

Hope I got all these quotes divided properly. lol

I believe she was born to fall in love with the first person she meet anyway. So looks like there is no freewill for her in this game. For sure she is loves you, but may you call it love? Nah... One of the reason (and probably main) she fall with you is both of you are self-aware. She didn't know anything about you, but that fact.
There is no other options for her, so it's quite hard to tell whom she will choice :) At least it would be more fair.
Are people born to love too, aren't they? I mean this is significant part of our life. otherwise we all would just die, huh? Though it's quite random part, at least you can choice from the whole world. Tbh Monika's love isn't that far away from reality. Even more real than you could get on Earth sometimes...
Wow guys, you really go deep here!

yes, there is the kind of love of her, I think that putting in reality, if she did not have so many obstacles, would be a beautiful love, she seemed a good person, but with everything that happened, she goes into despair and loses sanity, appearing her yandere side
in her case, I believe it can be applied in distant relationships or relationships whose something or someone prevents the couple from being together, as an authoritarian family or something like that
with so much pressure, people can not stay calm and some people go beyond the limits

and if we think, she acted like a yandere as well as yuri

Hope I got all these quotes divided properly. lol

then it might have been of some help, when we learned of their problems, but there was no way to help them;
Sayori .___.

about Monika after story, today she started talking about bullying and then said she did not commit bullying against sayori that did not exist, so it would not be bullying
She also says that in the midst of her epiphany when she discovered that her whole life was a lie
and that she loved us, and the game would not give her a chance, she made sure to do everything for us to end up together
I find this well placed in the story

I'll play this mod, since no one dies I'll play
I'm afraid to play doki doki, I even took a break in "our final heartbeat", even having a happy ending
After some other mods that I played as "exit music" and "natsuki side story", then I went searching to not download any mod that is sad, like "the good ending"

I was scared when I found out about libitina and these things.
I played the first time without even paying attention to the poems, but when I had to play more often to get the best final, I was realizing these things and well .... it really gave me a mixture of fear and anguish about the girls' story
but I could not understand the monika's side that from what I'm seeing, it's so obscure or even more

our role would be basically to choose some of them to follow the route, but with all the events, it turned into a dispute, I think it would be basically the movie "Saw" and we would be the prize
perhaps the president of the club was only an obstacle that harmed everyone in their task of reaching us
Just like when Sayori took power.

I understood and agree with what you said about the songs
about "delet me" It looks like it was an oasis, she saw what she wanted to see

talking about music, I had researched "your reality", which I understood, is original of the game. I found this analysis very good, even too much, because with the explanation of the events, I managed to feel what she went through, verse by verse of the song

You split everything right.
I hope I got the division right.;-;' hehe

I doubt Monika actually had any love for the player. Rather, the player was literally the only thing in her world that she could identify with...
...However, for anyone who believe Monika loved the player I have to ask "What if you weren't her only choice?" Not trying to be a downer, I really enjoy any story that can evoke such critical thinking as DDLC.
Wow guys, you really go deep here!

she chooses us because we are also self-aware, because we are alike. because of this, she does not understand why we give importance to other girls, since they are "dull", this fact makes her more angry with the other girls
in some parts of the game if I remember correctly she says this, she does not understand how we can like other girls and not her
I believe that even if there were other options she would choose us, for the same reason she does not understand why we chose the other
she felt superior to others because she was self-aware

yes, there is the kind of love of her, I think that putting in reality, if she did not have so many obstacles, would be a beautiful love, she seemed a good person, but with everything that happened, she goes into despair and loses sanity, appearing her yandere side
in her case, I believe it can be applied in distant relationships or relationships whose something or someone prevents the couple from being together, as an authoritarian family or something like that
with so much pressure, people can not stay calm and some people go beyond the limits

There's no denying that Monika has a strong will. It's not just her intelligence, but a natural wisdom to keep her wits about her. If we look at Sayori you can see that she becomes self-aware twice within the game. Not just the ending, but if you mess with the character files before/during a gameplay. If it's the later, you see her immediately start to break down into insanity. The game crashes and when it's turned back on she's committed suicide. With either this or the cannon ending to the game Sayori loses her mind at the realization Monika had undergone. Monika, on the other hand, managed to hold on to her sanity for quite a while. However, even that isn't enough to keep her from considering ending her life.

The realization of becoming self-aware in this situation is like a sudden omnipotence of everything that has ever been and ever will be. Monika not only knew her reality wasn't "real", but she no longer had a reason to look to the future. She knew everything that will have ever happen before, during and after her existence. The only unknowns left to her involved discovering what she can do to the "code" of her world and the presence of the "player". The player was another unknown variable, something she could not "read".

Ultimately, Monika had to make the choice to either risk living out her predictable existence in solitude, risk possible oblivion when her world was "turned off" or take a chance with whatever this "unknown variable" was in the form of the "player". I believe Monika knew what she had to do, but at the same time she really didn't want to do it. While she did make backups of their files she would still have to corrupt her friends. I believe that in order for her to actually do this she made a backup of her own file (hence why she cannot truly be deleted and continues to exist within the hidden files) and made adjustments to her own file to give her the extra push to do what she had to do.

I believe the adjustments were minor at first, something to take the edge off of the situation and allow her to think more clearly, but after seeing Sayori change and eventually kill herself Monika messes with her own file even more. She's much more aggressive about her approach during the second half of the game and by the end when Yuri stands up to her Monika goes overboard, turning herself into the person we're sitting with at the end of the game. Someone who could shrug off the death of her friends, but at the same time she had to keep reminding herself they "weren't real". I believe that after Monikas file is "deleted" whatever was left of her original file begins to regain control.

It's only then when she gains what she had taken away from her own file, "regret".

I know that may not be original in the plot, but I saw that in the mod "the good ending", everyone gets to know everything that happened, and they get very angry with Monika.
The MC ends up shrugging his shoulders at Monika, treating her badly and saying that this place is her punishment of her (in that part she shows us the poem "Peace in the sun" that is asking for help, and she says "I love you" and then MC says no "one will ever love you")
After that, Sayori begins to suspect why Monika is sad, when they go to check, Monika had killed herself, and the whole course of the mod, if I understood correctly, would be to have a happy ending, but ends up going all wrong.
Sayori can not stand what happened and she kills herself.
But in the aftermath, Sayori says he does not regret it, explains everything, and thanks you and the MC, with that it was a happy ending.
I believe that after the death of Sayori in the original, Monika lost the only thing that could hold her bad side, which would be the happiness Sayori provided for everyone

in the mod as everyone knew what had happened, they were trying a new way to get everything right, and ended up showing what monika suffered and what she would have done had it not been for Sayori to have killed herself before
PS: no one had the privileges of the file

I think that when she backed up, she already knew that it would not end well, so when she comes back, her file is normal, but the memories exist
what remains is to regret that she lost everything because she abused the power she had in the wrong way

I still feel very sorry for her, she was a good girl, but gradually she became corrupted and did everything she did.
And the worst part is that it was all forced on her, making her go crazy, considering all the factors that she's the one not having a route and everything else
"monika the excluded" :((
