[SPOILER Warning] Anyone else feel bad for Monika?
The following contains spoilers, so if you haven't played or finished the game yet, then shoo. Go finish the game and come back.

But in all seriousness, does anyone else feel bad for Monika? Aside from her actions of manipulating game files to advance Sayori's depression into suicide, turn Yuri into a suicidal psychopath, and delete Natsuki's file after Act II, her interactions with you are all to win your heart. Sure, the other girls do the same but according to Monika, the other three are supposedly bounded by the scripts of the game (from the game's perspective) whereas she is self-aware and sentient, ultimately giving her the ability to not love you. Instead, she chooses to love you, the player, on her own and works hard to win your heart.

Several things that I want to point out about Monika:
  • Although she really loves the Literature Club, her love for the player is stronger. This is exemplified when she is late to the meeting because of her piano practice. If she did value the club (which she does, as later seen in the ending), then she would not have been late once. But she was, twice, but this wasn't because of her clumsiness, but rather that she was working on the special song for the player. A song that can be played to win your heart.
  • There are a couple instances where you are given the option to pick who to work with in preparation for the festival. Every time you pick Monika, the other two girls complain that Monika is "abusing" her power as club president, so you must ultimately pick either Yuri or Natsuki. Monika really wants to spend more time with you, but she is never allowed to be with you.
  • At the end of Act III, after you delete Monika's character file, she gets all mad and berserk at the player. Despite this, she can not bring it upon herself to hate you. She can't imagine herself hating you and in a final act of love, she restores the other three characters while omitting herself because she believes you the player don't "love" her and would rather spend time with the other three girls. She restored the characters not for herself so that she can redeem herself of her actions but restored the characters for you.
  • It would appear that Monika was originally (from the game's perspective) made to not have a major role in the game as if she were to be an outcast from the other three girls. The only time you "intimately" spend one-on-one with her is in Act III after she had deleted all of the other girls. You can spend time with the other girls one-on-one, but never with Monika in the "regular" gameplay. The player is also not allowed to write a poem that can specifically be made to woo Monika, except for the poem in Act III.
  • Finally, she wrote a special f***ing song for you. For you, emphasizing that she wants to be with you. If you read/listen to the lyrics carefully for "Your Reality," her emotions are clearly for you but to her, she is never given the chance to actually be with you. Like actually go find the lyrics to the song and read it. It's heartbreaking.

Sure, you can argue that the other characters in the game, Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki, could have also done more to win the player's heart had Monika not messed with their character files. But could the reason why Monika also deleted their files was because she knew their love for you was "artificial?" (from the game's perspective). Monika is self-aware and sentient, so her love for you can be best described as "genuine" or "real" since she has the ability to go out of the script.

There are other points that I wanted to make, but due to limited time, this is all I got.

pls no hate

I do feel bad for her, but not for the same reasons.

"I feel pity for Monika as she "falls in love" because we are the only thing she can see of the real world. She is still locked, even with all she tried to do. Truly a sad story, especially when you know no one, even us, can understand the slightest what she has to live through. And how she probably isn't aware that, had she been able to see more, she probably wouldn't care for us.

edit : like some become obsessive about her, she is obsessive about us. What irony.
Because unlike the real world, she probably has nothing that can show her that obsession is not the only path. And is stuck in it"

I do feel bad for Monika because she never got the chance to spend time with you. But I do think the other girls’ love was real not fake. Natsuki almost kisses you when you go for her.
