Portrait of Markov does not appear to be a real book, but “Markov” is typically in reference to Andrey Markov, a Russian mathematician. Markov’s most well-known contribution to mathematics is the Markov chain, a process for selecting outcomes based on one or more previous events. Markov chains are typically used to rudimentarily model simple real-life processes. It is unknown what further relevance this has to the story.

Could it be a reference to The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde?

It's not like anything like what Yuri describes, but the title and theme seem similar.

There's a book called "Erebos" which is about a sentient computer game called Erebos that enlists its players to aid in murdering its developer's chief rival a couple of years after his own suicide. This game breaks the fourth wall in a similar fashion to DDLC, browsing users' files on their computers, though its intent is to glean intrigue on them for the purpose of blackmailing them into performing actions in the real, physical world. But what really made me think that it's worth mentioning here is that Erebos's (the book, as opposed to the game) cover is red and features a large picture of an eye staring at the reader.

Imagine a spin off book for this.
