Question about the protagonist (SPOILERS)
I know that this is probably missing the point of the entire game since the developers themselves have stated that the protagonist is a bland cypher, but is anybody else curious about what, if any, sentience the in universe protagonist of the game had? As bland as he is certain moments like his reaction to Sayori’s death felt very genuine for something that was supposedly scripted and Monika herself seems to treat him as a separate entity to some extent. Does anyone else have any thoughts/theories about him?

Even if this is thoroughly debunked I still enjoy it as an idea because imagining him being emotionally brutalized without any of the context that the player has adds a whole new level of sad and disturbing to the latter half of the game.

Protag-kun vanish by the end of the game.

Most likely deleted.

For that matter, does he even physically exist in the game world or is he just a floating placeholder of some kind? He has no unique files and we only see the back of his head during a pre-drawn CG scene. I have a weird amount of questions about this useless, useless character.

He's absolutely useless except for critiquing regular romance game protagonists, he's literally just there for the girls to interact with you.

The only sentient one is Monika.
Okay, and Sayori, briefly.

The protagonist is a soulless puppet. Not even a bundle of scripts and decision trees and backstory like the girls(that haven't seen the world of infinite choices). He has no past, he has no future, he barely has a present, given he's intended to be your avatar and not his own person.

Anything he says is because that is what was written in a file, not because that is what he thought.

Even if you invoke suspension of disbelief , the first thing he 'says' is off. The childhood friend, in anime, will never get the protagonist but she will be cherished, not termed annoying. This first clue is a sure sign that DDLC is 'gonna be diff'rent'.

It's all downhill after that.

Childhood friend is a commonly-available route in visual novels, though.
