Regarding the finger licking - you are playing a self-admitted, deliberately tacky visual novel, albeit well written. That's just how it is.
If you're that irritated I'd also suggest you take a break afterwards.

The horror is most effective when you can relate to what is going on. Rushing through to get to the 'scary parts' isn't really how it works.
edit; this game probably shouldn't have been advertised as psychological horror at all.. It would have been far creepier that way.
