I have no mouth, and I must scream [Spoilers]

While playing this game I couldn't help but begin to draw similarities between this game and the short story "I have no mouth, and I must scream", a short horror story by Harlan Ellison.

Both this game and that story involve: traversing a nightmarish hellscape (the post-apocalyptic world of "I have no mouth and I must scream" and the nightmare world of this game) all while this being that hates you and is torturing you is constantly near you. (In the story's case, it's AM, a super computer that wiped out humanity and hates humans so much that he kept some alive to torture them. and in the game's case is the parasite, though whether or not it actually hates you is up to interpretation, but it is definitely torturing you)

And just as you manage to get away from it and seek freedom, its dashed away. and you are punished gravely because of it.

In the stories case, the last humans find a bunch of food but can't get to it, so in a fit of rage they start killing each other, the last surviving human manages to kill the majortiy of them, ridding AM of his play things and pissing him off. So AM directs all of his hate towards the last remaining human, turning him into this weird blob thing that the book describes in great detail.

The same can be said for this game as well, just as the MC is about to reach the portal or whatever, the parasite reappears after getting pulled off, punishing the MC for trying to escape, and turning him into a weird blob thing.

IN FACT, if any of you have played the old 1995 Macintosh game that was based off of "I have no mouth and I must scream", you may have noticed that the giant creature towards the end of this game looks VERY similar to what happened to the last human after AM directed his hate towards him.

Now this whole thing could just be a massive reach, as those two things I pointed out are really the only thing the story and this game have in common. If anything, the dev's probably used "I have no mouth and I must scream" as a basis for everything. But I just found it rather interesting and figured other people might as well.
