How do you deal with the little chicken-like monsters?

So far, combat hasn't been terribly complex. The Salamander spitters don't track so their spit is easy enough to side-step. Dodge the spit, jackhammer them in the hamburger meat mouth. The big four-legger Brute things I haven't really fought with the jackhammer since I save my pistol ammo for them.

But the little Chicken spitters just seem like guaranteed damage. Their spit projectile seems to lead target and move incredibly quickly. I could try to bait them into leading target and switch directions, but my character has too much momentum. I could shoot them, but they seem to take two shots, of which I have very few.

Is there any reliable way to dodge their spit?

Lure them around the corner. They'll drop in two jackhammer hits to the face. You don't need to waste your bullets on them. Avoiding damage isn't guaranteed, but they'll only be able to hit you once if you don't jump them fast enough.

Yeah, I've been trying to do that. Can't always find decent corners, considering they rarely come alone. I did notice that I can spoof them, though. They definitely lead target, so if I sprint to circle-strafe around them they'll lead by a mile. If I stop sprinting just as they shoot, they'll always miss. They take long enough between spits to run over and jackhammer them.

I tend to mostly use my bullets for either Brutes or large groups of enemies where I can't avoid their damage. Been running around at 1 HP for a while now...

I mostly try to avoid fights. Salamandra-like monsters have routes and if you will wait a little bit they will hide in holes. You can avoid chickens too, but these are easy to kill, they have cool finisher if you hit them right in the face.

Haven't found any of the extra weapons in game only have the pogo stick hitter thing

2 shotgun blasts will take down a charger. Save all that ammo for those.
