How is there no topic discussing the Inventor yet?
This class is.. odd. I'm not sure how to make him work but theres a few glaring issues:

The biggest is that if he ever gets chunked its going to cost a fortune to heal him since he has 2-3x anyone else's healthpool so he can basically only heal in battle. (Edit: Should mention that heal costs scale nonlinearly based on damage taken. So its costing a good ~5x to heal a third of his health compared to anyone else. A full heal being ~700.)

Another issue is that hes entirely reliant on leaching strikes to function on his own. Sure a doctor to heal him or a bruiser to draw focus away would probably be a good idea, but surely he should be able to stand on his own merits?

Thirdly he is railroaded into very specific comps since he has such anti-synergy with shields. A big draw of the game used to be that you could make just about any class combination work but an Inventor and a Technician in the same party..

Maybe readjusting him to have a massive shield pool (doesn't recharge after battle) with nearly no health (resistant to penetration damage) would make the class feel better. But maybe thats just because I don't know how to make him work.

I have been trying to play with this class now and I am just on low level. To keep him alive seems to be quite hard for me. I don't know if it is just a coincidence but it looks that enemies fucus on him if he has less HP. I will see on higher levels if he will be able to live longer.

To be honest, the enemies target anyone else than him (apart from those with bleed/fire attacks). The biggest issue is to get him to deal enough damage, really. Neither the Power Glove nor the Energy Blade deal a lot of damage, and before the late-game, none of his attacks does anything else than damage. No or little disruption, and no synergies with the others (so far... lvl6).

I paired him with a Tracker and a Scrapper, but haven't found a single Critical Amp yet, so the increased variety of stuff you can find has actually been a huge difficulty-boost. I struggle with building the strongest characters as quickly and surely as I have been used to.

I will now make a new team, because I struggle so strongly with the Morphs with this team that I'm just abandoning it as it stands. I'm starting a new one with a Miner, a Medic accompanying the Inventor, in the hope that removing armor and adrenaline-boosting will be a more fruitful approach.

It does seem rather well odd as a class, it negates like half the cards that other support classes use, it basically rules out using a tech, you absolutely need a medic and a bruiser with it or maybe medic and leader at a push. The fact it only gets 2 leech strikes as standard is frankly woeful, its a weird class idea. As Halfshell cat says I think the class would work better and make more thematic sense with huge shield pool and low health. Id redesign the whole thing personally but when this run is over I am going to try making one work.

Doesn't need a redesign, just make everything that heals health now restore shields instead. Give resistance to penetration and make shields not refresh after battle. Ends up basically the same as now except supports can affect him more and it doesn't cost so much to heal.

I added Inventor to a team of Miner and Leader. At level 4 I added to him the Chemist specialty.

The idea was for the whole team to buff Miner (Demolitionist specialty) for the extreme "Explosive Grenades" damage and, since I noticed enemies really do like the Inventor's lack of shield and focus him entirely, the Chemist class provides some neat self-healing for the Inventor (especially the level 9 skill).

The guy is basically immortal right now, having almost 80% of the time Leeching Heal in his hand, then getting the same amount of healing just by attacking. The most for level 4 Inventor I got out of healing was an amazing 7+7+21(crit)+7=42 healing from one Leeching Heal card! That is actually amazing.

The Leader mostly debuffs the enemy team and the Miner raw damages/applies fire DOT. I also specialized the add-ons on the weapons for the extra fire DOT's damage/damage % appliance.

Not tried out yet, this is what I plan to do when time permitted:

Since inventor has two melee weapons, this means the class can have so many "quick strike/attack" cards. Coupled with Implant surger that can 50% energize 1 on critical attack, you can use these 'quick strike' cards to get many 'energize 1's. This seems doable even in early stage.

Still sounds a little rng dependent for my liking, some of the enemies later on hit hard, very hard indeed and if you fail to draw an leech hit for 2 turns you could easily end up dead. But we shall see I suppose hes still a new class so not judging to quickly

Build an Inventor with high Evasion and Recycle%:

- Blade + Glove: mods with inherent +Evasion, roll Quick Strike cards
- Two Scavenging Tool Kits: mods with inherent +Recycle%, roll Craft Supply cards
- Skittish
- Implants w/ Evasion (the good one has -Max Health, which is oddly counterintuitive)
- Quartermaster: Rearm cards, Conserve Supply passive, Puncturing Arms passive

This gives you higher Evasion than any other class (I think) and high Recycle% to ensure that you always have a Leeching Hit card in hand, or a few ways to search your deck for one if needed. Puncturing Arms for bonus health damage is just icing on the cake.
The key is crafting gear with minimal cards to keep your deck lean. Makes searching it with Craft Supply and Rearm much more reliable.

To revive this thread, Inventor is just a different take on the Bruiser. I just ran Tracker, Scrapper and Inventor and demolished by endgame. I tooled the Tracker for raw damage, made the Scrapper support and pumped the Inventors damage and sustain through the healing ability when he attacks. You rarely even need Leeching Strike when he's healing 6% on every attack, more on multi-hits. I think he died once or twice the whole run and his sustain and ability to heal and take hits plus dish out damage was absurd. He's a brawler with crazy sustain if you build him right. Definitely not underpowered, probably not overpowered. Pump your Leeching Strike to Level 3 ASAP.
