Thief: Deadly Shadows

Bit of grumbling about Favors for Factions
This is being written in the hope that the rest of you can help me catch something I have missed in the continuity of the three Thief games. My question is this: Why are the Pagans willing to work with Garret in Thief: Deadly Shadows?

Garret and the Hammerites have a long and colourful history of mutualy antagonistic behavior, which is somethymes put aside when more pressing issues arrise, but the fact that Garret -killed the Pagan's God- should be quite the stumbling block in the formation of a relationship between the two.

Did I miss how they came to be on good terms again? Yes, he worked with Victoria when the end of the world was at hand, but that also ended poorly for the Pagans.

My apologies if my tone is antagonistic... The faction mechanic in Thief: Deadly Shadows always grated on me, and I just am looking for a way to make it seem less out of place in my interaction with the wonderful world of the Thief games.

In thief 2 he had an alliance with the wood nymph and then pagan leader, Viktoria. It is later implied in the same game that she had romantic feelings for Garret. if that doesnt explain it he also brung a retribution of sorts to the mechanists, wich had slaughtered entire villages by the time of the formation of said alliance. also of note they ARE initially hostile and through a note it is explained that they are willing to help him if he does enough favors due to there intense loyalty to the current leader and Viktoria.

Hrmmmm.... I was hoping here was to be more to it than that. Thank you for the reply though; the system is somewhat more palatable in this light, but still a tad off to me.

Having bought and played each of these games upon their initial market releases, I may have been harboring this peeve a tad too long to let it go easily.
