Steam Controller Config? [Solved]
I'm having trouble setting up TDS with my new Steam Controller (SC).

There's only one community config at the moment, from Croaker, but it doesn't work for me. The left-hand joystick on the SC gets mapped to the zoom in and out of Garrett's mechanical eye for some reason, even though it's not been set to do that in the SC setup screen in Steam itself.

I've tried setting up as a gamepad, and also as a WASD substitution (which is what Croaker's config does). I either get the zoom in/out problem, or Garrett is constantly walking forward with the joystick doing nothing to control him.

The annoying thing is that the game does have partial controller support, and the left joystick works fine for movement on my XBox 360 controller. In the past I used the Pinnacle Game Profiler software to fill in the functionality for the rest of the buttons. It would be nice to get it working without having to use Pinnacle though, so I could use it through my Steam Link.

I have all input options set to be the default from within the TDS config screens. Is there something else that I need to be doing there?

Any advice welcome!

Just to confirm that it was nothing that I'd changed, I deleted the game and reinstalled from scratch via Steam.

Same problems, I'm afraid. The left joystick is mapped to Garrett's mechanical eye zoom.

Has anybody had any luck with the Steam Controller and TDS?

Okay, I finally got somewhere with this.

It seems to be a bug in the Steam Controller with this game. Even though the left joystick of the controller is mapped to WASD, it appears to be actually sending the four arrow keys to the game instead. So instead of movement, my joystick was controlled zoom in/out and lean left/right.

Having guessed that was happening, I worked around it by remapping directional movement in the game itself so that it was mapped to the four arrow keys instead of to WASD. I couldn't do that in the TDS GUI, unfortunately, because I couldn't work out how to set a function to an arrowed key there! So, I set it directly in the useroptions.ini file (the one in the game's Save folder) instead. Here's the lines that I changed:

Right=StrafeRightLeft 1.000000
Up=MoveForwardBackward 1.000000
Left=StrafeRightLeft -1.000000
Down=MoveForwardBackward -1.000000

W=None
A=None
S=None
D=None

It's still an inferior experience to what I had with my XBox 360 controller and the Pinnacle Game Controller software though. The lack of analog movement from the joystick is a serious bummer.

Actually, the button mappings are still all over the place with the Steam Controller. And the lack of analogue movement really sucks.

I think I'll be better off with my 360 controller with this game.

The problem is that you can't use configurations besides your Desktop one (what the controller acts like when not playing a game) once the game loads up. This game disables the Steam Overlay, which has to be working in order for it to "trigger" your game controller configuration.
