Using an Xbox One controller
I'm trying to play TDS with an Xbox One controller that I've used to play several other Steam games without issue. I've got sneaky tweaker installed (v. 1.1.10) and everything works great with the controller during startup and going through the menus, but when I start a new game/mission, it will flicker and show my desktop, go to the loading screen, start the mission, and the controller is completely unresponsive (though still has power).

Any idea why this is happening?

Tried playing in windowed mode.
Tried resetting controls to defaults.
Tried re-binding the controls in the game and through the steam controller configurator (Big Picture and non-Big Picture)
Tried Steam Controller input forced off but that made the controller completely unresponsive from startup.

It seems odd that the controller works great in the menus and everything, but as soon as it's time to actually play the game, it doesn't recognize any input from the controller (even if I quit and go to the main menu where it was just working before I started the mission).

Erm. This game is really not suited for a controller. And I'm a guy who prefer controllers

Nevermind, used the "Thief 3 with Sneaky Upgrade" EXE and now it's functioning. Needs dialing in, but of course I figure it out right after posting for help.

Really? It smooths the movement big time and was designed for controllers. I much prefer it to M&K for this game.
For anyone else wondering how to get a controller setup, I have a guide for this. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1759739472

I'm coming back to this game so sorry for the necro, but this thread was helpful to me, that being being said, this game I do believe WAS designed for a controller no M/KB, I still own my original copy on the original xbox from '99, and of course there was no mouse and keyboard on original xbox, just a controller. and it does play smoother with a controller ins everal ways, bow drawing and undrawing, and walk speed being touch sensitive.

My issue is that I use a controller to simulate keyboard inputs, but the game acts completely crazy when using the controller like this. When I use the left joystick to simulate wasd the character moves but also changes weapons on the weapon wheel, And it seemed to be taking analogue input as well on top of that so I'm moving the character slowly when moving the joystick forward a little. Also when I use the X Button to simulate a keyboard input the game seems to be pressing F3. This is bizarre.
that would be frustrating, did you try Francise's suggestion above about how to play with an xbox controller?

Is Steam Big Picture interfering?
