Screamer Beginner Guide

A small guide for more fun with this good old game.


Game Setup:
If you have sound issues or many game crashes, go to the game files of screamer and set the "STARTH.exe" to the Win XP SP2 Compatibility Mode. The game will still crash sometimes but your championship progression is saved and you can beat the game.

Controller Setup:
You can use your gamepad with a program like xpadder which emulate the keyboard keys. Use the D-Pad for Steering!

Controls:
Arrow Up = Acceleration
Arrow Down = Brake
Arrow left = Steering left
Arrow right = Steering right
Ctrl = Gear up
Left Alt = Gear down
F1 - F4 = Camera Views

Beat the game:
This game has stupid physics which make it hard to win a race but I can give you some advice:

1. Don`t use the Brake! Its very sensitive and not useful. Watch the mini map for corners and go of the gas in the corner. If you hit the outside wall its no big problem.

2. Don`t crash into other cars because.. stupid physics

3. Its hard to get in the lead position without crashes. Avoid the other cars and drive careful.
If you are the leader its very easy to win a race. Just drive careful and slow down in corners. Don`t use the brake.

XPadder nor any other way I've tried works with it. XPadder doesn't even work within Steam. Doesn't seem like there's a way to play with a controller.

I use Controller Companion and it worked fine once I tweaked it to my liking.
fyi - braking varies with grip on various cars, some times it will help you drift.

Unless you take advantage of those stupid physics, If you crash from behind or from the sides it's no good, but if you use the rear quarters of your car to crash into the other cars front wheels you can send them fliying or at least slow them
