I just deleted it, fck it.
Good for you?
Some of us don't want to play HC, and standard shouldn't have situations which are "basically HC" that more or less force people to start over.
Honestly, it's a tough mechanic, and I fully get the frustration of losing items and having some sort of death loop.
But once you get the hang of it, and be prepared, it is a lot of fun for corpse running.
And figuring out how to manage it so to speak.
As for invasion while having items dropped, I would always keep 2 back up wands in my main inventory, and through building clever traps, you should be able to take care of invasion even with out armor and just a wand.
Playing standard is supposed to remove this thought process, giving you a gradually incresing difficulty curve that you are prepared for, not to suddenly end your game when you are having a blast.
I was lucky and found a rank 1 cloak early in the game, or else I would be uberfrustrated like other people is. We don't like to waste all of our time invested in the game because of a hardcore-like mechanic that can suddenly reduce all of the character's powers to a state that's like losing many levels, or losing most of your offensive power, or the defensive, and then making it impossible to advance.
Having a need to keep a backup gear and relying on a single item like the cloak is a bad sign, and speaks nothing good on the game's death and resurrect mechanic.
Because of the bug that made some enemies "smell" you while cloaked, I twice died like 4 times trying to recover my gear with partially backup gear plus cloak, then all backup gear and my backup cloak, then half-backup half-whatever-I-had-in-the-inventory, and I ended almost gearless. I managed to recover all the stuff, but I could do it because I'm a factory of smart cookies and I analized the situation when I was close to the gearless state, but that's so extreme for a "corpse recovery"...
We need a corpse/tombstone with all the gear in there, and we need an NPC that can bring it back even if we have to pay an high amount of gold equal to the items value.
In standard, the items dropped never despawn, so you will not have to worry about losing the items.
Getting back the items, however, that is the hard part.
Bank has the space, having alternate / back up gears is a real thing, there are so many items in this game that you probably want to keep some anyways for different builds.
Having two sets of other play style back up gears/ancient items probably would not be out of question once you get to a higher level, and if you end up being completely wiped at a lower level, then it doesn't matter as much, so to speak, it's very easy to catch back up to say level 10~15
Cloak will be wiping aggro, if it hasn't been in the game yet with the past two patches, I haven't had a chance to test. but bullets still in air can still hit you,
I understand completely that different people have different playstyles.
That's why I pushed for an advanced game creation system in the future, where everything can be checked or unchecked for a custom play mode...
But that probably won't have a shot at being implemented until post launch, it's more important to get the game itself to launch first.
*disclaimer, i am not a dev, i'm just a volunteer mod*
Speaking of challenges... I thought after the patch having 3 or 4 wraiths at the same time was one... but please, do something about the combined horde of wisps and wraiths. When a world book generation spawns both enemies in the same layer it's horrible to survive those together in a small dungeon room!, and thanks that I use a Staff of Shadows (Death Strike-Execute), or else it would be worse.
