How long does it take for trees to (re)grow?
I just started a brand-new Wizard.

When I turned all the trees on the surface into saplings and replanted them around my bed, I thought I was being super savvy and efficient this time around!

But now it's nearly summer, none of the trees are full grown (some only evolved once since sapling stage), and I ran out of torches days ago.

Do I need some kind of fertilizer? Or maybe the ''roof'' is blocking them from getting rain? I kinda planted all the trees under the surface.

I'm well rested and raring to go deeper, but having to reuse torches is such a disgraceful situation =(!

Ok, so the issue here is that if you have the sappling in an enclosed area (there is something close on top of it) it will literally not grow until that thing on top of it is moved further upwards or removed entirely.

Approximately 2-4 in-game days for trees to fully grow but please don't quote me on this I didn't test it.

If you remove all obstacles on top of the sappling after leaving it unable to grow for a while it will grow very soon (maybe next day?)

Either way, I hope this helps with your question.

Things to add:
-You can place the trees as close as the game let you to each other (so every 2nd tile).
-A tree gives 75xp when you chop it - as long as it's grown enough to give you wood, not sticks.
-They have 4 stages: the first one is the one where he's 1 tile big (after planting/chopping). Phase 2 is like 3-4 tiles big and only gives off sticks. Phase 3 and 4 both give wood, but the same xp. As the wood of a phase 3 grown tree farm is more than enough to cover your wood needs, I would suggest not to let them grow full to phase 4. With the 10-15 trees relocated near your base you have a pretty big income of harvest xp this way.
-I think you can chop them every 2 days.
-Your attack power seems to increase your axe-power as well, meaning you can one-shot the phase 3 trees later of if you have one high-attack item to swap in for that.
-Excessive wood can be turned into parchments (recipe unlocks as soon as you discovered your first copper ore iirc) for some little money... but is only worth doing for the first hour to get skills to rank 2 or 3 faster.

Trees grow one phase per day.

Probably means every time it's 12:00pm (noon), the same as crops, but needs testing ^^

Yes, they all grow one phase each day at the same time crops do.

Thank you all.

I shouldn't have planted the saplings in an enclosed area.

After reading your posts, I managed to do everything perfectly on a new Enchanter. I have been able to spam torches to my heart's content again.
