Lets talk about bad Reviews...
Ok, so i've been noticing that pretty much every bad review on ILB have many things in common with each other. They all say its a ripoff of Terraria, they have played Terraria (and obviously don't understand what a Terraria ripoff is), have 8 hours on the game, and have really long reviews. I'm pretty sure that they spend 7 hours writing the review and 1 hour playing and forgot to close ILB. Just making a point about the reviews...

Honestly never heard of Terraria before this game. I came here to support the Developer. I still haven't even checked out Terraria, so I have to ask, what game is Terraria a copy of?

If it's long, they obviously say a bit more than it's just a terraria ripoff.

From what I can tell, It Lurks Below is about as much as of a Terraria copy as Terraria is a Minecraft copy. Definitely share some common inspiration and a few similar mechanics, but otherwise very different kinds of games. Each great in their own way

Minecraft, but side scrolling.

Oh that makes sense. I never liked Minecraft, so I never played Terraria. Technically I've never played this game either, probably won't. Just came to support the Dev. I might play it to unlock achievements if it gets them.

Honestly terraria is a great game and totally worth playing. This game has a lot going for it as well and even though im currently finished after 60 hours or so I still have the urge to play again if/when more content is added.

This is a massive misrepresentation of what Terraria is.
Not every game that has mining and crafting is a Minecraft clone.

Terraria is a massive 2d side scrolling action game. It is insanely intricate with hundreds of hours of content and multiple difficulty modes.

You create your own character, highly customizable, and start out with nothing but a few tools. There are dozens of different enemies and about a dozen different bosses in the game, each very unique and challenging.

Instead of character classes, your characters abilities are determined by the armor they choose to wear and the weapons they choose to use. It has SO many weapons-just about everything you can imagine from spells and swords to magical spears, boomerangs, and yoyos and mini guns.

It has many different biomes and a lot of treasure to be found, both high in the sky and deep below.

No 2d sidescroller game has better movement or intense action. It is an absolute must try for anyone who enjoys combat and exploration. You can build stuff and be creative if you want to, but it is by no means the focus of the game.

It has a massive community and a ton of mods as well.

Buying Terraria and giving it a try is a kindness that I hope everyone does for themselves.

ILB has :P

I believe Hugz was replying to Azire's question; Also "2D Minecraft" is how everyone described Terraria before there were more games around to establish this as the 2D sandbox genre.

Please don't advertise other games in It Lurks Below forums.

It really disrespects the creator of this game.

Correcting someone else's terrible comparison of another game is no advertisement, nor is there anything wrong with wholeheartedly reccomending it after it has been mentioned.

I've bought this game and gifted it to others, and I am an active member of the community both here and on discord. Clearly I'm a fan. I can be a fan of more than one thing, and especially two somewhat similar things.

Acknowledging another creator's success and encouraging others to try it is not disrespect, either.

I consider your statement here both petty and more than a little oversensitive. I seriously doubt I'd be hearing this if I were on another game forum and ILB were brought up, and I decided to preach the good word of how awesome It Lurks Below is and how everyone should try it.

I'd expect a lot better from a Mod, especially.

Chill.

Nah, ILB doesn't have many of the movement skills and tools that Terraria has, nor the number of bosses, monsters, or weapons. This will probably change over time,
Again, acknowledging differences is not disrespect.

Anyway, I'll go ahead and drop it here. See you all around.
HouseOfTheRat Jun 20, 2019 @ 4:45pm
Just to be clear, your comment was about "better movement" and "intense action". Since the context was sidescrolling games, I took the former to mean the actual movement, control, and responsiveness - not the number of movement tools like swinging ropes etc.

Likewise I took the latter to mean the intensity of action and combat, not the number of different enemy types.

All in all, I believe that isolated detail comparisons are meaningless unless someone specifically asks for that kind of information - and way too likely to turn into pissing contests. Terraria and ILB are two different games with a different focus that share some common elements. Anyone is free to like any or both of them but nobody has anything to gain from arguing about which game is better.
Skezla Jun 20, 2019 @ 5:53pm

I love both games wholeheartedly and for separate reasons, and it wasnt my intention to compare the two unfairly.

When I posted, it was specifically to inform one person about a game they were curious about. One offhand comment about what I think about the movement and combat shouldn't outweigh or derail the clear purpose of what I originally wrote. The only direct comparisons I made were in response to your challenge of my subjective opinion, and their only purpose was to clarify why I said what I said, not prove that I was somehow right about something as fluid and unobjective as an opinion.

Any contest here is purely imagination.

See you all later. Bedtime for me.

Cheer up people! 😉😁

No challenges were made or anything else to be taken personally - especially when emotes/emojis/smilies are present! :D :D
