Never played a chinese RPG. How does this compare to JRPGS?

I've been very interested in Chinese RPG's lately after researching the Legend of Sword and Fairy and Xuan Yuan Sword series". I do realize that the Taiwanese/Chinese game development industry is very small so I know the presentation and graphics will be very outdated.

But I was wondering if any people who are familiar with these games can shed some light on how they compare to JRPG's, especially the stories and mechanics. I've been wanting to play some of the older entries but sadly they have never been localized besides one fan translation for the first game in this series. I'd definitely want to support more localizations of these games if they are any good.

Chinese Paladin series are, to a large extent, similar to Final Fantasy series, both on stories and mechanics, but the stories of Chinese Paladin series are far more oriental.
Localization is a long-term and challengable work, but I do think Softstar has already set about doing this. CP6:S&F is the first step they take.

Correction: maybe the second step cause the first is Gate of Firmament^^

I'm a big fan of Wuxia actually so these types of stories won't be too foreign to me. But having never played a game developed by China I'm curious as to how the quality compares to JRPG. Yea I've noticed Gate of Firmament has been localized before this.

Which would you recommend for a first time CRPG player like myself?

It might be hard for you in latinized Chinese but it doesn't matter. Just go ahead and ask me freely should you bump into any problems.

Hey so i think if you like JRPG you will like this....but i can only speak for Gate of Firmament since that's the only one i played it being the only one in english and all.
Graphics actually weren't too bad and even though it's a bit dated they made the whole game look really pretty. Animations were a lil bit stiff but it didn't bother me much. You shouldn't expect a ff 15 or ff13 graphics wise but since the rest was so nice it shouldn't matter too much.
The story and characters were really interesting for me and well written (even though sometimes some things were hard to understand since localisation is not the best).

So since Gate of Firmament basically was my first (and for now) only CRPG i can highly recommend it as first one xD. i mean i am really looking forward to the release of Chinese Paladin: Sword and Fairy 6 just because i liked the other game so much..

I might try this one out first since it seems like this one has a turn based battle option. Hopefully I like it enough to get Gate of Firmament too.

Welp..seems like the game is delayed without any update. Looks like I'll be getting Gate of Firmament after all.
