Feel free to dive into the wikia for more details, but I'll summarize what I can.
All of these girls are going through secret ninja training.
They hope to get strong enough to reach the highest ranks of shinobi.
While that's going on, the demons of this universe called youma, show up and break things.
The youma were was killed Miyabi's mom. They are at the center of the SK2 Deep Crimson story (alternate timeline). And there is a really big one waiting to wake up and destroy the entirity of existence.
In Estival Versus we learn that it's already destroyed several other timelines.
We effectively get confirmation of the multiverse of SK in that game with additional confirmation in PBS where we have characters show up from other timelines/universes.
So by the time we reach SK7, this giant youma will awaken and all the shinobi will have to take it out or die trying.
It's probably be epic.
If you missed out on the original SK games on 3DS, you should keep an eye out for Burst Re:Newal, a rename of the first game. It'll bring you up to speed on a lot of stuff.
that's the basics.
but thanks for the recap i will read about the story more thanks again!
T&A and girls attached to it.

The world is under constant siege by yôma who are basically demons. The only people who can effectively fight them are shinobi, so there are a ton a shinobi schools. There are good and evil shinobi, but in Senran Kagura "good" means "employed by the government" and "evil" means "private economy", so take from that what you will. In fact, many high-ranking shinobi are considered both good and evil at the same time since they do both types of work. The highest rank among shinobi is called "kagura".
There are more schools, but those central to the story are Hanzô, Gessen and Hebijo.
Hanzô:
Founded by and named after Asuka's grandpa who is a legendary shinobi and also a massive perv. He was capable enough to take the rank of kagura but he didn't feel like he'd be able to give up his guilty pleasures. Asuka's grandma Sayuri (also known as Jasmine) on the other hand is an ex-kagura. She gave up on the position though after a deployment went wrong due to her hesitation.
Gessen:
The Gessen school was founded by the legendary shinobi Kurokage, who died a short while ago. He was a good friend of Hanzô until he ended the friendship over major philosophical differences. Kurokage believed that peace can only be achieved when evil is thoroughly exterminated through extreme measures. Shortly before his death he abandoned this rigid stance to a degree though. All of the Gessen girls are orphans who have been taken in by Kurokage. Yumi, the elite leader is is granddaughter.
Hebijo:
Hebijo is an evil school, so basically mercenaries. The school got completely destroyed a few years ago when a giant yôma emerged, but has been re-built since. However, many shinobi died and current elite leader Miyabi is also a survivor of a yôma attack that left her unable to even walk or communicate for at least several months.
Crimson Squad:
Not exactly a school, all of the Crimson Squad girls are ex-Hebijo. The became renegades when they found out that the Hebijo leader at that time had a hand in the catastrophic yôma incident that destroyed the school. After that they went into hiding in the wilderness and had been hunted by the current Hebijo shinobi. After their reputation had been restored they refused to go back to the school and chose to continue living free even though it's often hard.
Mikagura Sisters:
The Mikagura sisters got introduced when they helped Sayuri hold the Millenium Festival. They are specialized and highly trained shrine maidens from a remote village. Once, when they were playing in the forest they met and befriended a little girl that never talked. They met up regularly but kept it a secret because they weren't allowed contact with outsiders. One day the girl suddenly spoke on sentence. It warned the sisters of a yôma that was going to attack the village. They didn't really believe it and were also scared to tell the grown-ups that they had talked to an outsider. When they yôma actually appeared the little girl fought it in the forest. When the sisters arrived, the girl got distracted by them and got swallowed by the yôma. The sisters would have been killed if the yôma hadn't suddenly blown to pieces from the inside. From that day on the Mikagura sisters have been searching for that girl because they believe that she still is alive somewhere.
She was a Gessen elite who died fighting the same yôma that left Miyabi nearly dead. Her sisters blamed Miyabi for her death and tried (and nearly succeeded) to kill her. In the end they ended up joining her though since it turned out it wasn't her fault.
Great summary of the major events.
All the more hype for when Burst Re:Newal comes out and we get to relive the original story in full HD.
By the same estimates, it could be on Steam around Q1 of 2019.
This is all speculation but it falls in line with what we've seen with the last two major Senran Kagura releases.
