Putting
I really want to like this game, and for the most part I do. My driving game is pretty solid, though there seems to be a whole lot of inconsistency between the information given to me and where the ball actually goes distance wise, but MY GOD the putting in this game is awful. Whoever decided to not include some sort of power meter at least for putting, fire them. There is zero consistency at all to this. I shouldn't be having to guess at my shots. Like I know I don't have a lot of time in this game, but I've managed to find a pretty good motion with the mouse to at least let me put the ball close to where I want it, but the green is just a crap shoot, and this is where the game has lost me. Terrible design choice.

putting is not awful at all and power meters are for old arcade style golf games that belong in the past...its all about practise

Have you been to the "putting green"? You have to practice to get very good at all!

Well I haven't played a golf game since the days of the original xbox, so you'll have to forgive me if maybe I'm not too keen on the swing and pray mechanic that this game has. I feel that knowing how much power and backswing to put into any given shot provides a far more satisfying experience than how well you can flick a mouse. Considering that most actual arcade golf games use a similar style of play only with a roller ball, calling a power meter the "old arcade style" seems kind of silly. But you are right, maybe I should just practise (sic) more.

I started off playing with a mouse, but found it very difficult as far as consistency goes. So - I switched to an xbox controller just plugged into my PC, and I have found that to be a lot better, and my game has improved.
Lets face it, golfers in the real world dont have power meters, so that is not an issue for me. As Andy has said above - PRACTICE, its as simple as that.
Watch a few of the top players on utube, (early1981, jimgem) that will improve your game and give you plenty of tips.
As the saying goes - "Drive for SHOW - Putt for DOUGH !! If everybody could putt, we'd all be millionaires lolol. Enjoy

Putting is the easiest part of the game since there is no tempo or set swing speed, just focus on the length of the swing. That is your power meter.

I just recently picked this up after logging a lot of time on GC2 and this is way better. I could never go back to the casualness of a TW Golf game ever, though an added mode i think would benefit the dev team.

I agree OP, putting in this game is dreadful. No arguments. I can do it, but I hate it. The next game has a sort of power meter below the golfer for putting, which shows the required put strength and how close you got to it.

The elitists/purists will whine about that too :) They want a golf sim, we want a game...

Putting can be twitchy here. It still takes into account the speed of your forward swing, it can still get pushed off to one side for no good reason. On the greens the ball sometimes FAILS to react to the supposed slope. Not just a slight slope either, sometimes the green grid totally disagrees with what the ball did.

Many people love this game, but the unpredictable bugs go on. There has not been a bugfix update since 4 months after launch - the next game will probably be the same.

That was a setting I think both are going to get what they want

Personally, I think that the meter is a good idea! As long as there is a choice as to whether you want to use it. In the past when there were meters, it got to a point that it was no longer a challenge. There was "never" a 3 putt green.
Players are shooting -15 to -20 and wanna make the game easier! That's what I have issues with.
To all of you that play on the easiest settings, I hope you think you accomplished something. Playing from the longest tees with firm greens with #1 pins is not close to being a very hard setting. And I'm amazed at how many people never consider green speed. Even the game considers a 163ft. green to be "fast". Try putting at 176ft. and up & watch your score go up.
I don't care that some of you that play on the easiest settings and shoot your -19 think that you are "good".
Take the training wheels off every now and then and see if you can ride.

Why do you have issues with how ppl play. Its our game to choose what level we play at
Capt.EO Jul 13, 2020 @ 5:26pm
Ok the putting is hard but not crazy hard. There are some insanely " hard" video games but overall, this isn't really one of them, IMO. It does take some time to get the feel for the speed and breaks, but it's doable and really satisfying when you get on a roll and start making a few long ones .

Putting in real life golf is crazy hard, it's pretty easy to lip out a 3 foot putt and PGA pros do that all the time . I like the way it's hard to determine speed and line very precisely in the game , cause that's pretty much just like it is in real life .
Andy Jul 13, 2020 @ 9:43pm
Fully agree with you Capt
ZoSoSF Jul 13, 2020 @ 10:57pm
after playing this game a while i have to chuckle when i see a pro pull one left of the green or miss a four-footer... but overall their consistency and ability to scramble are what keeps them in it... same here... although, they're now carrying the ball 300+ off the tee... Bryson carried one 340 yds in the air last week. we're not there yet on TGC. sometimes i'm better with a 30-ft putt than a six-footer. i miss a lot of short putts.

somebody add me and lets play

I agree with komradeKD, the game mechanics are generally OK except for putting, there is so much inconsistency in the short putt breaks that are supposed to be there which just do not happen when the putt is made that you cannot not rely on the given information. If this inconsistency is not corrected in the 2020 version, you will have one less customer. Short chips are also without any gauge to determine the swing length to make.
