You obviously have a lot of patience. I never got even close to what you have done. I would've gone to a controller a long time ago.
Good Luck with whatever decision you make!
I started off using the mouse, with pro clubs and medium difficulty. I eventually, after much practice, won quite a few tournaments, however the tempo with the mouse is really hard to achieve and repeatability is essential.
One thing you cant do is to delay at the top of the back swing - this is key !!
Depress the left mouse button first, draw the mouse back ( at tempo) and as soon as the player reaches the top of the back swing drive the mouse forward (still holding down the left mouse button). Come back to slow and you lose distance, to fast you lose accuracy.
Since I have progressed to Master clubs and difficult level am finding it very difficult to repeat that tempo, shot after shot using a mouse. I've have tried all things, but at the moment am using two stops say 14 cm (5 - 6 ins) apart. That then restricts the movement of the mouse, you can restrict the movement further if you wish, I think it helps achieving that tempo.
Go into training mode (practice mode) - use the driver, and just swing away and see what works for you. You just need to nail that "tempo" - that is absolutely key also.
At the moment am thinking of going to the xbox controller, which appears to be a bit easier. Have used my sons briefly and I am getting much better results eg either just under or just over par. I need more practice of course, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Once you have the swing sorted, the defects in the rest of your game are highlighted lolol.
Its good fun though
Good luck and Enjoy.
I use a vertical mouse and my swings are a lot shorter than in the past. Backswing is about the same pace as before but downswing is now a lot quicker and "shorter".
If you are trying to figure this out for yourself, then beware of SPOILER ALERT below...
To swing with a mouse; click and pull back the mouse to start the back swing. DON'T PAUSE at the top of swing, but push forward AS SOON AS the club gets to the top. Your own hand and the specific distance traveled by the mouse isn't the critical part (just enough to get the golfer swinging). Just watch your avatar swing the club and match your mouse pull/push to the timing of the avatar's swing. The distance the mouse moves is slightly important for speed and will vary by mouse sensitivity (in OS and in game settings), but the tempo is the critical part.
BTW: I loaded the Logitech SetPoint driver, but I don't think it ended up making much difference.
Wherever your mouse settings are controlled from; set the pointer speed to about 1/2 and turn the pointer acceleration OFF. I'm using mouse sensitivity of 60 in the game. But, just set all of that to where you can get perfect top and bottom with a comfortable amount of hand movement. The lower sensitivity and no acceleration makes things much more consistent and a lot less frustrating. And, it appears that all you have to do to control power is to start your down swing early. So, to hit a ball at 60% power, you just have to start the down swing when the avatar's swing is at about 60%. Duh! Seems obvious now. Now I can have fun with this. I almost bought an XBOX controller. Probably don't need one now (for this game at least). Yeah!
So, now you should be able to knock (a lot of) points off your score and irritate all the XBOX controller folks (and the mouse folks that figured this out on their own...sorry about that...)!
:)
I have a Logitech tracball but can't get the swing plane down, so I switched to a vertical mouse and it feels so much more natural.
For designing the tracball mouse is awesome though.
