Swing tempo
I've been sucking with swing tempo. Always very slow on the downswing. Usually perfect or slow on the backswing. I can do it pretty straight but the tempo screws every shot up.

I bought the game to play solo and figured last night after being frustrated with it, I want to play the strategy of it and don't want to do that mechanic right now. So I threw something together to do a perfect stroke every time.

What I found out is that the tempo requirement changes. I'm not sure if it's based on courses, or amount of perfect shots in a row (I think the second is the most likely). It doesn't appear to be based on where the ball laid or based on the club used. This thing'll hit perfect/perfect on a button click (should be 100% of the time because it never changes) and then every ~5 strokes it will say it's very slow or fast or something random. It seems like nonsense and I admittedly suck with the mechanic, but how are you ever supposed to master the mechanic if it's constantly changing?

Seems silly. I still went back to practicing without it because I'd like to be able to do it well myself since I paid 50 bucks for the game....but I walked away from that 'experiment' feeling a bit dismayed about ever getting this down.

Anyone regularly shooting perfect/perfect have any tips? Are you seeing it occasionally screw you even though you do the same routine and regularly hit perfect/perfect? It might not be in your head. I wanted to post the script to do the perfect shot to let people see for themselves but I'm pretty sure that'd break (rightfully so) a forum rule.

EDIT: I'm unsubscribing from the discussion. No one thinks that having randomness in the tempo mechanic is a bad thing. Got it. I wish I had known about it before I bought the game, I wouldn't have bought it. I was under the impression you could master the mechanic. You can't....and everyone's totally cool with that because you can't master it in real life so of course the game should randomly make you suck occasionally....got it.

Check this tutorial video out. But I believe your right that sometimes it just doesn't seem to apply.

not sure if even the best players can consitently hit perfect/perfect

If that's by design then that's pretty lame. It would be hard enough to get a routine down where you could regularly swing perfect/perfect, to make the game also work against you seems like a poor attempt at an anti-hack....and if that's the case, it should be fairly easy to find who's cheating if they track any of the swing data. No one can hit a perfectly straight line every time without some 'help'. Punish those people...not wreck the tempo mechanic.

Hypotheticaly, of course, I only have 'proof' of playing a couple hours with that. I would love a dev to come in and tell me it's based on wind or something so I didn't feel so negative about it.

In that video he is using the pro clubs which I haven't tried yet. They must have the master set wound so tight that it near impossible to repeat consistently. I may be switching to the Pro set as I want to control distance and work the ball with the device and not use the dial a distance loft.

Im on pro and things are working out pretty well for me

pro clubs are very doable yes.
in fact maybe a tad too easy.

Try turning off the swing meter and see if you can manage to get a better swing by feel. Sometimes you end up playing the meter rather than just swinging the clubs.

BTW, I agree that the pro clubs are to easy.

What I would like to see are 'chump clubs'. Clubs that have the easy club's distance with the pro club's difficulty. This would more closely resemble the way I play in real life. :-)

It takes getting used to, but at least you have feedback with this release. If you're having trouble with tempo not feeling right, adjust the sensitivity of the mouse. Also, a natural swing has a slight pause at the top of the backswing, but if you pause too long, it will wonk your swing. Lastly, there's a slight delay/lag between when I stop my swing and the avatar stops theirs, so anticipate this too.

but thats realistic, no player in real live golf hits perfect all the time.

Do not waste your time, they do not get it, they want 3 click and dialling all their shots perfectly all the time.

No I don't. I wanted to be able to learn the tempo and get it down pat and try and swing the club right. If the tempo constantly changes then you can't really learn it. I think that's dumb. It's hard enough to do the same perfect motion with your hands. If you can, you should be rewarded for it.

it just takes practice. i came from 3 clicking links 2003 to this.....boy was i surprised. i hated this game the first 4 hours i played it. VERY frustrated for the first 2 days. then all of a sudden it clicked for me and now i LOVE this game (i use the mouse). ive got my handicap to a +7 using the mouse, pro clubs, and when in career mode on medium difficulty (which i will be increasing soon). if one sticks with this game (and loves golf), i believe they will see the light as well. Dont give up! very rewarding and fulfilling game witha little practice.

ps-i do have to use something straight to slide my mouse against, but with a controller the game is easy mode.

I discovered a little secret with timing that effects the speed of both the backswing and downswing. Found this by trying to use tempo to control draw and fade with the swing. Only way to get very fast on the downswing is to time the transition exactly as you reach 100% power. You reach 100% before the animation reaches a full turn, making it the hardest to pull off. As the swing gets longer the tempo gets slower. So if you wait until the animation stops before starting the downswing your probably going to get slow, and any pause you're going to be very slow.

Now you can adjust you swing speed to compensate to a degree but you need to have the timing right too. This is why very fast is so tough, requires perfect timing and very fast swing speed.

When transitioning between back and forward before 100% the perfect tempo window gets much larger. This makes it easier to hit lower powered shots and still maintain perfect/perfect.

This should help in analyzing the swing feedback results and how to correct it.
