Almost no spin
Anyone else finding it very hard to get the higher lofted (8,9, even PW) clubs to stick on the green? I'm getting an awful lot of run out in this new game unless I put a crazy amount high loft.

think u just have to go high loft

I agree, something is wrong with the spin on the short irons. GW pitch shot from the fairway that has a 63yd carry rolls out another 7 yds.

This is where I wish you could choose a specific club type (or even ball type) that has characteristics like Cleveland zip grooves or Chrome Soft ball action.

This is a real issue and did not happen in the previous game.

I couldnt hold the greens on gc2 and this game is no better. Its very hard to get the ball close.

With the high irons (7-9) and wedges you can use max loft and it will hold the greens very nicely, you just have to get a feel for shortened distance at the driving range. (LW and SW will usually backspin a couple feet on the green)

In TGC2 you used to be able to "decently" hold with the 4-6 irons at max loft as well, but they changed the effectiveness of adjusting the loft on those irons this year (I think that was a countermeasure to the slower greens in this version).

I get the impression that the only way they were able to fix chipping (which is now more than fixed, it's the most realistic part of the game now) was by adjusting spin across the board, so now it's tough trying to get short irons and wedges to stop on firm greens.

I played some courses and changed the greens to soft and moderately fast and so far this change makes things perfect (to my eye) - short irons bounce and roll out 5-8 yards, PW 3-4 yards and SW and LW hop and stop or occasionally spin back if wind and green slope are favourable.

Problem is the society tournaments and TGC Tours will invariably select super-firm concrete greens to add difficulty, which I understand but it's not fun (plus it ruins any pretence of realism) having to land a wedge on the fringe because you need to account for up to 10 yards bounce & rollout...

Looking at HB forums it looks like the devs are pretending it's not an issue, exactly the same response as they had to the chipping glitches in TGC2. I do find it funny that they said there was no chipping glitch in TGC2, yet for TGC 2K19 they've totally revamped chipping and it's absolutely perfect. Why would they fix something that they insisted wasn't broke...? Hopefully they will do something about this though, even if it just means changing what qualifies as 'very firm' for greens so it's closer to 'moderately firm' in reality, because some of these short iron rollouts are absolutely outrageous, and I say that as a HUGE fan of the game.

Ive sorted out the spin problem. Just club down and run it on. This negates the need for massive spin. I won my first tournament on the pga full tour by 4 shots. I was eight under. So its up to next level of difficulty. I was on medium, so now its hard.
Using the club down strategy and using the wind and slope Ive won last two tournaments
I really like this game. Apparantly it was designed by many of the old EA TW team. That explains much.
The new brooms really have made a difference.

^^ That's not a fix, that's a workaround.

On the TGC and HB forums, the lack of spin is a huge topic.

Am going to give societies a miss this time around for this very reason, bored of imaculate golf, Its not fun anymore.

The devs will monitor feedback on the physics.

Cheers Keith :)

I recorded myself playing a round on St Andrews, changing the greens to soft and moderate speed. I think the vast majority of people would agree that the green/ball/spin interactions in this vid are closer to a real-life 'normal firmness' expectation rather than 'soft'.

If there is a way of reducing the spiciness of the firm greens (or adding some mustard to the ball spin, no idea how you guys are programming this of course!) just a touch, I think it would make a world of difference.

great to hear!

Keith, tell the Devs to monitor why they made the balls fly so low off wedges, and maybe fix it :)

I'm becoming more certain that the low flight path is the issue - backspin can't do much if the ball is landing at a shallow angle because it's not flying high enough to 'drop and stop'.
