Driving target circle what does it indicate
Never noticed this before but the white circle (that you can move left and right) that I figure indicates where you ball would approximately fall when you do a perfect swing changes where it is for apparently no reason. If I'm on the driving range, same wind, same club, same club settings etc. the position of the circle drastically changes?! why? what does it indicate then?

Think I just figured it out myself: It seems the reticle is located direction-wise where the ball would go if you would hit dead straight but distance-wise it's according to your last shot with the same club.
Wow, that's interesting that would explain a lot about why some of my shots seemed so off with regard to distance.
So it's basically useless to rely on for distance unless you want to remember how you did the last time with the same club.

hmm, just in case your reading this because you also want to know: I think the reticle is reset to the default distance / club distance when going from hole to hole. So it just doesn't reset on the driving range because your always at the same hole sorta speak.

To me it's just an unnecessary eye sore. Your aim point is center of the screen (use wind meter) and carry distance below center. Same goes for the flag marker, just move that info up to the HUD. Still got spot pin option.

But it's hard to tell what say "135 yards" is. Only the distance of the flag is given.

I suppose it depends on what you want out of the game. It is very gamey to see exactly where "135 yards" is. That would be hard to estimate in real life too. But it's kind of a way I think in which people expect to play games like this.
Anyway, I think the problem is only on the driving range anyway. You can turn the reticle off right?

yes its a camera option....what we need is a reliable overhead view...comparable to a note or score card that give distances that are meaningful...but as long as that is controled by designers with drunken way point syndrom we are cursed

What I was getting at the circle is always in the same position on the screen and that spot is just as easy to determine with it off. Centered horizontally and about a third of the way up from the bottom. Also that circle is only accurate if you were to have a flat lie, no wind or elevation and hit perfect tempo with a straight swing path. The only thing you really need to know is where your aiming and the wind meter works fine for that.

Maybe I'm using the wrong term. But are we talking about the same thing? I'm talking about the big white flat circle that you can see placed on the ground after the fly-over, when you press "Q" on your keyboard when you're ready for a drive/swing (not a put).

That circle is where your ball will land if you hit it. Not roll out just the club distance. As to where it is on a new hole depends on where the first waypoint was situated by the designer. Some designers give you a full driver off the tee and others set it up for a club down or two.

If its moving check your controller. My 360 controller rights stick needs to be pushed every now and then to stop if moving forwards slowly

Yes the landing circle is really no more than a huge ugly aiming marker. Only time you could possibly hit it if you were playing on flat ground with no wind. Definitely won't hit it if you miss the tempo even in those conditions. When aiming you move it away from where you want the ball to land based off the conditions. I can tell where the center of the screen is with out it just fine.

Yeah all of that I figured as well but then on the driving range (try yourself) you'll see that at same wind, same club the placement of the marker (distance wise) can radically change. It seems to place it at the distance your last shot landed at. I just somehow thought maybe this was happening in regular play as well because I had some shots that didn't seem to make sense distance wise.
