Army Men RTS

Army Men RTS

CAN'T PLAY THE GAME - GRAPHICS FAIL
I recently downloaded Army Men RTS on my new PC via Steam, but the game doesn’t display properly. As shown in the attached screenshot, the screen is mostly grey and the in-game graphics fail to render correctly.

My operating system is Windows 11 Home..

I’d really appreciate your help resolving this issue or any suggestions you may have. Thank you in advance!

Have you tried installing the dgVoodoo wrapper? Sometimes that will correct DirectX rendering issues.

Hi there! Let me explain the issue and walk you through a quick tutorial to help:

Brief explanation:
Graphical issues in older games are quite common, mostly because they rely on outdated drivers that are no longer supported on modern systems.

How can you fix it?
There’s an app called DgVoodoo that emulates those old drivers so the game can run properly on your PC.

Download link + explanation:
You can get it from this link:
(Here’s a reference image: https://i.imgur.com/4ozIyCV.png)

After downloading it, extract the contents to a folder. Inside, you'll find two important things:

1. The executable file (.exe) or main application.

2. A folder named "MS" (reference image: https://i.imgur.com/nhqjtgK.png)

Inside the "MS" folder, look for another folder named "x86" — what we need is the content inside that folder, not the folder itself.

Here’s what to do next:

1. Open your game’s installation folder (go to your Steam Library → Right-click the game → Properties → Installed Files → Browse...).

2. Paste both the .exe file and the contents of the x86 folder directly into the game’s directory.

Optional (but recommended):
To remove the watermark that DgVoodoo adds, open the app, go to the DirectX tab, and uncheck the "dgVoodoo Watermark" option.

And that’s it! The final (and most important) step: enjoy your game!

Hope this helped.

Espero haberte ayudado.
I'm having this same problem. Please let me know if you've found a fix.

Did you try what was explained in the post just before yours...?

This game is unpredictable, and I'm not sure why. I have Windows 10 Pro 22H2 running on an old Ivy Bridge build with an i7-3770K and a GTX 680 4Gb, and it launches fine. I have Windows 11 Pro 23H2 running on a Raptor Lake build with a 13700K and an RTX 4090, and it launches fine. And I have Windows 10 22H2 running on an Alder Lake build with an i5-12600K and an RTX 3070Ti, and half the time launching it results in a crash with a 0xC0000005 access violation error -- if I start it a second time after this, it usually launches fine. But there was an earlier time when on this last one it would completely tie up the OS and I'd have to soft reset the PC and reboot to break out of it. Not sure what fixed it or when, maybe updated GPU drivers but I really have no idea.

But give dgVoodoo a shot at least. Also not that in the game's home directory there is a logging file (amrts.txt) that might help you with troubleshooting the problem.
