I think I do have a solution for you. Download dgVoodoo. Copy d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll, as well as d3dimm, ddraw and the dgVoodooCPL application. Make sure that dgVoodoo uses a 1 GB videocard in the DirectX tab. So, in my case, an NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GT. It essentially emulates an older videocard on a newer system. Hope this helps. For any further questions, feel free to ask.
P.S. It is important to run the application in Administrator mode. So far it launches consistently without fail.
