I was using Linux Mint, I wrote that two years ago, I'm using Arch now and have the same issue, no mouse and alt tabbing is just as bad. Perhaps an older proton version will work better, I haven't tried any launch options either.
Just tried it set to proton 9.0-4 and it runs perfectly for me, mouse cursor is fine and even alt-tabbing works.
So switch from experimental and try it again. At least it's working fine for me on Arch.
No clue if the same would hold for Fedora since I'm pretty sure it's running Wayland these days.
Not the best situation, but functional at least.
