I know there is a technical term for it, but it's not coming to mind: when the program is devoting resources to load up more of an area that is coming up, but trying to do it in the background so that there is less time spent at a loading screen and more time spent playing the actual level.
When I'm speed running I'm encountering more frame-drops and stutters as it's trying to stay ahead of my progress, and if I tap the loading screen as soon as I hear the horn, this error kicks more often. Not 100% of the time, but being in a rush does seem to provoke it.
When I'm not in a rush, particularly if I'm doing multiplayer with one of my friends who likes to "stop and smell the roses" so to speak and we take our time going through levels, it doesn't seem to be nearly as much of an issue.
So I'm guessing this has something to do with that background-loading stuff going on? Just trying to help narrow the symptoms / causes down.
