Setting only x2 on all the weapons that I would LIKE to see, with a maybe a few filtered out?
That works much better.
The math helps explain why - assuming there are no rarity tiers and assuming you are on part2 where every weapon is in the drop pool, there should be 80 weapons that can be rolled.
This means each one is a 1/80 chance = 1.25%
Each one you remove doesn't significantly change your chances: the difference between 1/80 (1.25%) and 1/79 (1.2658%) is almost negligible
So with -12 choices your odds of getting any given weapon is 1/68 (1.47%)
If we assume 12 x2 picks- this gives you a 2/92 chance for each one (2.17%)
- with a 1/92 chance of the ones you don't want (1.08%)
- giving you a total 24/92 chance for any of those 12 (26.09%)
The ultimate result is that you will tend to see multiple copies of the weapons in your x2 pool over the course of a run.
This works great if you are hoping to find a weapon with a highly effective alt-fire mode (like booster or trigger-tap) and your main concern is the category, like it's a heavy-weapon, elemental, or explosive, or that it's from a subset of weapons, like precision, where there are several choices that are fairly similar in function.
Dragoon mortar, easy 2x.
Bubble splasher, filtered out.
Panchaku, I like it. 2x.
Igniter gun, nah. Filtered out.
(Yes. I love dragoon. My favorite weapon in the game.)
