Is this really like Borderlands?
I saw some reviews comparing Roboquest to Borderlands (strangely they seem to have been positive reviews by mistake). Is it really that bad?

so either those "reviewers" didn't play both games or they also compare 2D with 3D games.

It's Steam Reviews, so I wouldn't expect the user to have played Borderlands OR Roboquest.

It’s like Borderlands in that it has a large variety of weapons and looks vaguely similar, that’s it. Everything else is incredibly different.

It has similar graphics and guns and damage numbers and looting. So maybe?

Guys, stop taking the bait.

This thread is basically "Borderlands bad, right you guys?"

My question is based on real steam reviews. Any comparison to Borderlands is a huge red flag. I played some Roboquest though and I'm happy to say it is nothing like Borderlands and actually pretty good.

Visuals and "weapons with modifiers" loot system look similar to Borderlands. But gameplay-wise, it's closer to Doom 2016/Eternal (aside the fact you have less weapons at any given time). Imo this combination is quite decent.
Nothing like borderlands. This game is good.
Damn i loved BL2, sad to see how they butchered my boi

Seems like the reviewers detracting points for similarities to Borderlands are criticising Roboquest for reminding them of an inferior title. Borderlands has overindulged in itself over the years, mystifying fans with Reddit-tier writing and dumb Marvel-like plots. Some fans stopped following Borderlands because min-maxing guns wasn't fun anymore.

Critics who first play Roboquest are going to immediately draw comparisons to Borderlands because of the artstyle and gun rarities, but over time it should become clear it's more of a hybrid between DOOM 2016 & Borderlands w/ roguelike elements.

it has similar art, looting, weapons, character abilities, luckily it lacks the neomarxist inclinations of the 3rd game and stealthed neomarxist assertions of the 2nd game

I like Borderlands an this game but roboquest is a roguelike and not open world with tons of loot in it.

Yes, it does share some aspects with Borderlands 2 (which is a good game.)
